@ 2.5 billion dollars here's your first pic http://www.nasa.gov/...ature_2387.html

Wonder how many kids that would feed :(

The technology you are reading these words on right now was originally developed by NASA in the 1960's. Before they began shrinking computer components to fit into a small space capsule a computer would fill a large room.

If you read the link that you provided it says very clearly that the images were taken by a hazard avoidance camera on the bottom of the rover. Over the next couple days they'll bring out the hi-res cameras and the pictures should be outstanding.

The 2.5 billion NASA spent on this project is chump change compared to what Obama has flushed down the toilet over the last 3 years, and I doubt he fed a single child in all that time.

For once I completely agree with you Pete. Just enjoy what man has accomplished. The thing was hovering at a decent rate of 2 miles per hour while repelling down to the surface. All this done from a building remotely.

Depending on where they are in their respective orbits, they can be anywhere from 36 million miles to over 250 million miles apart.

If only I were king, a fixed percentage of GDP would be allocated to R&D which pays for itself many, many times over in advancing technology and the human condition. And it is a small sum, indeed, when compared to the hundreds of billions flushed down the Obama toilet but as well by most administrations since FDR.

If your kids are hungry, they should be put in foster homes where they can be properly cared for. Where in hell did this notion come from that it's up to those who pay taxes (only about half the country) to feed your kids, much less clothe them or care for them in any other way. The ONLY thing children are guaranteed in the constitution is an education - and that means it's offered to them and if they don't wish to make use of it, so be it. We would have colonies on Mars by now if we hadn't pissed away trillions of dollars on liberal bullshit over the past 50 years. That's the real shame!!!

Come on Guys would it not be so cool to be so advanced that we could create a rover that not only finds and eliminates land mines but also delievers meals. We already have the technology to go mars we just do not have the body to live through it. really proving that we can send small cars to Mars is old. Time to let the brains at NASA solve some problems at home. I bet they can solve just about all of them too.

NASA funding has been slashed since the 1960's when they practically had a blank check to do whatever they wanted. The fact that they can still pull off these amazing scientific feats with very limited resources just proves that American ingenuity can do damn near anything regardless of how little they have to work with. And yes, 2.5 billion to put a one ton rover on Mars seems reasonable when you considered the average cost of each shuttle flight was 1.5 billion and there were a lot of them.

Making sure our economy is in a healthy state so people don't go hungry is the job of government. They've had unlimited funds for the last 100+ years, and not only have they squandered it all, they're now borrowing money to squander in amounts too high to ever pay back. If the government had much less to spend and was held accountable for every dime, our country would run much more smoothly. Our government is like some spoiled brat billionaire that has spent all of his company's money, and is now embezzling from the company investors to maintain his lifestyle. We need term limits on members of both houses, much more accurate accounting and no lifetime pensions/medical for retired house members. Then you would see people who were interested in true public service running for office instead of people only interested in gaining wealth and power.

First of all Dumb ass is a little out of place here what I'm talking about is what can all of the brain power of NASA come up with to help out people. Man on the moon got it awsome But was that not a politcal desicion during a cold war administration ? Is this not the same? I got the velcro would not be in our world with out the space program. This is going to kill you folk NASA needed a pen that would write in space spent millions on it Russia used a pencil . The multi million dollar hammer is a true story here. Now just so you liberal hating NASA loving people understand this before you nail me to the wall. I'm all in favor of this stuff I posted the first pic here. I'm just saying its alot of double spend . You guys have already done this . Jesus christ what battewr'y they use last time all of our lap tops need that shit ?? But ohh noo there 's some copywrithe issue to solve before we let that tecnologie lose and sorry Canada you can't have it till we test out your laws too.

Now that might be a bit wrong but not by much. So as I said there 's alot of brain doing shit they have done before for no reason but to get more money. Let them loose and let them solve some shit betsha it a good idea.

Its all a wind up our asres and will never get anywhere because it takes to many people to do it

And as a second thougt its not the job of the goverment to make sure your kids get feed. It the job of the parents. I'm thinking the brains at NASA can make that easyer how I don't know lets ask the real smart people because they might be able to answer the question

I think kids are over rated.. NASA is way cooler. lol

Say goodbye to NASA though... we are outsourcing almost everything now. To me that is very sad.

Go back and read what I wrote. I never said it was the job of the government to feed out kids, I said it's the job of government to make sure our economy is healthy so people don't go hungry. Big difference. Most people who go hungry can't afford to feed themselves because they can't find a job.

I don't do politics so I won't comment on most of this thread. I do however think it is very cool that we can send space craft to space and remotely land them from Earth. Why mars... I don't know but obviously there must be something there they are looking to for answers. As well, if we can send shuttles and other crafts to distant planets, why the hell can I not drive a car that gets better gas mileage?

Allow me to contradict myself now...

Space exploration drives technological advancement and equips Mankind to address potential threats that would render it extinct.

Harry et al may like to read the summary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child; the relevant clause states that governments will provide nutritious food to children. There are two countries that have not signed this convention... One is Somalia and the other is the USA!
