The free version of FRAPS only records for 30sec and has a watermark. The paid version lets you record for an unlimited time. It's $37, so it doesn't break the bank, but it's not free either.
One thing to check (while using the FREE version) is whether it can record your own voice. Many cannot because it's recording audio off of the playback channel, not the record channel. ShadowPlay from NVIDIA has great quality if you have a NVIDIA card meeting its requirements, but that lack of your own voice thing was a big disappointment to me. I think NVIDIA may have worked around that though, so look into ShadowPlay maybe.
Xfire doesn't record your voice either, and you're right @@BigPapaDean, the out of sync audio makes evaluating hacker videos extra hard.
