Totally agree! Or Chrome.

Agree to a point... There's a big problem with Firefox these days - drives me fucking crazy! Copy/Paste to/from Firefox is a total game of chance - http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2723981. I hate that! Can't live with it. This annoyance was introduced somewhere around V21 and has been plaguing the browser ever since. I love Firefox, and its addons/extensions are brilliant, but with the introduction of their rapid version deployment scheme of introducing updates, things have become a little dicey and it almost feels like the public have become the beta testers. All that said, I still think Firefox is the browser that renders websites the absolute best. But I had to make a move to Chrome. It is, with only some very minor - almost imperceptible - nuances, every bit as capable as Firefox in rendering a webpage correctly. It has extensions that are equally brilliant to those found in Firefox. Only problem I have with Chrome, is the inflexible manner in which it handles opening webpages in new tabs. Beyond that, I would be equally happy in Chrome or Firefox. But lets face it, Google services are becoming increasingly prevalent, and I would suspect that Chrome, if any browser, will be the one showing the least amount of issues with those services. for those of you who insist that Internet Explorer is just fine, I urge you to install Google Chrome on your computer and then run it side-by-side with Internet Explorer. Visit the sites you enjoy a on a daily basis using Internet Explorer, but also copy/paste the URL between browsers so you can see what a website looks like in Chrome. I think you will be quite surprised. Websites simply look better in Firefox and Chrome. Since you never see them in any other browser, you remain clueless. Chunky peanut butter is "just fine" until you discover the creamy goodness of smooth peanut butter (or vice versa if you are so inclined.) Web developers have known this all along. We fight a daily battle against Internet Explorer, and the way Microsoft has time and time again ignored the standards that have been established for the rendering of HTML and CSS by modern Internet browsers. When a new version of Internet Explorer is released, it is first scrutinized to determine what remains "broken" in relation to the standards, and what hacks will be necessary to at least allow a decent experience for the IE user. A good example is found in the following article. Ignore the geek speak, I've already pulled out and highlighted the most important statement found in the article, at least for the purposes of our discussion in this forum: http://www.impressivewebs.com/ie10-css-hacks/ Internet Explorer 10 is, by all accounts, the closest Microsoft has come to an actual standards-compliant browser. But I think it will still be a while before all of the workarounds start surfacing. In the meantime, for those systems where Microsoft is pushing IE10 into your update list, my recommendation is, "Take it!" because it will contain additional Internet security components that would be beneficial to Windows in general. But when it comes to getting out there on the Internet, use Google Chrome or Firefox. You will be happier!

Well, if something smells like shit, don't step in it, my mother always used to say. Actually she never said that at all, but it sounds like some of her wisdom.

Loved the commentary that followed the story!

Thanks, Labob -
Read the terms and conditions for Google Wallet to see what your recourse is on a transaction that goes sour. Google Wallet is a great way to pay for Android apps and music through the Google Play store, but I haven't really heard of its use outside that context. I'm sure it's okay wherever else it applies, but remember - these services should cloak your credit card information from the seller. DON'T give your CC number to ANYONE who is expecting payment via services like Google Wallet, PayPal, etc., as that would surely raise a red flag as a scam.

Getting a copy of XP for a new machine will likely be impossible at this time. Unless you purchased the copy of XP off the shelf as a retail edition of the OS (i.e., not included with any system,) it would likely be a violation of licensing terms to move that copy of the OS to a completely new machine. You could take up the matter with Microsoft; they might be accommodating in granting a transfer of license. As for the days-long virus scan: You need to create and mount (boot) a copy of Linux equipped with a scanner / malware removal tool on the CD/DVD drive and scan the Windows partition of the hard drive that way. Since the partition on the hard drive cannot infect the copy of Linux, both because it's on a non-writable media and on a foreign partition type, the scan will run at full speed and the malware can be eliminated in the time it would otherwise take Windows to do a full disc operation like a disk defrag, or a virus scan in which the system is not already infected. An iso to build such a scanner can actually be found at many of the leading Antivirus company's sites, or I'm sure there's tons of information out there on creating one from scratch. Pretty much anything that tells you it will create a boot CD to scan a Windows PC is going to be built on Linux. Newegg is a great source for pre-configured DIY systems that you can build yourself, secure in the knowledge that someone who knows what they are doing has come up with the specs and parts list. I wouldn't necessarily rely on them for a truly high-end gaming system, but you're not looking for that, and I'm sure they are configuring very solid mid-range systems that are dripping with bang for the buck.

I'll add my thoughts to all those of the others here. As we are the same age, I can offer comfort only anecdotally by noting that there seems to be a common meltdown that occurs at this point in our lives. Especially as we are faced with the mortality of our parents. And sadly, the all to frequent mortality of our careers. Keep strong, keep fighting!

I don't know CW-4, but I'm sure sorry to hear this has happened. My thoughts and good vibes for comfort and healing go out to him.

Hmm. At least the clickable image shouldn't have come out so small. So anyway, what Labob said.

I don't read Norwegian. I hear they speak it in Minnesota, so maybe Rugger could translate. I don't see anything about cooling. It's a "K" processor, and a kick ass one at that, but you need something more than just stock cooling to overclock any processor. A Corsair self-contained water cooler system is fine; others lay their balls out on the table and put in tubes and pumps and all that bullshit till it looks like NASA built the thing. I cannot be bothered to that degree, so that's why I suggest the Corsair units. The memory is CAS 9. Is there better (faster) memory out there? Just posing the question, not doing the research.

Mazda from what I know of you,you would've "kicked him in the nuts" first before they hauled you off to jail. I would have Johnny ... that was just bullshit and am I the only one who noticed but that lady cop never changed her gloves before searching the other woman !! eewwwwww I would have kicked her ass to Nor were they changed from rear to front, and I believe they went in that order.

Quite a bill. Did they give you the jar of caviar, or smear it where the dog's balls used to be?
