MrBubbles reacted to JohnnyDos in EpiPens Attracting U.S. Residents
From our News in Canada:
With the recent price increase for EpiPens, more Americans are crossing the border to buy the life saving device.
Mylan, the company that sells EpiPens in the U.S. has hiked up its prices by almost 500 per cent over the past nine years.
Nova Care Pharmacist Peter Dumo this is not the first time Americans have crossed the boarder for medication, nor will it be the last.
He says U.S. companies have no real price regulations.
"It is a common trend in the U.S. for companies to arbitrarily increase their prices by 50-100 per cent in a given year, sometimes 1000 per cent with no real logistical issue in terms of cost of manufacturing, says Dumo."
He says unlike the United States, Canadian drug companies are tightly regulated.
"We have price controls in Canada, all medications that are approved for use in Canada have to go to the Patent Medicine Review Board," says Dumo. "They negotiate with the company what the set price is and how much the price can increase per year. I believe that it is a standard three per cent that a price can increase per year."
Buying an EpiPen in Canada does not require a prescription.
A pack of two EpiPens in the U.S. now costs $600 USD compared to $136 CDN for a single EpiPen in Windsor.

MrBubbles reacted to DEEJAYKEG in Two women talking in Heaven
1st woman: Hi! Wanda.
2nd woman: Hi! Sylvia. How'd you die?
1st woman: I froze to death.
2nd woman: How horrible!
1st woman: It wasn't so bad.... After I quit shaking from the cold, I began to get warm & sleepy, and finally died a peaceful death. What about you?
2nd woman: I died of a massive heart attack. I suspected that my husband was cheating, so I came home early to catch him in the act. But instead, I found him all by himself in the den watching TV.
1st woman: So, what happened?
2nd woman: I was so sure there was another woman there somewhere that I started running all over the house looking. I ran up into the attic and searched, and down into the basement. Then I went through every closet and checked under all the beds. I kept this up until I had looked everywhere, and finally I became so exhausted that I just keeled over with a heart attack and died.
1st woman: Too bad you didn't look in the freezer---we'd both still be alive.
