Black... I know, sounds crazy but looks GREAT Currently, you have white spindles... paint them black (or gunshot metal grey) and they will look like metal spindles. Could leave the banister part as is, see how that looks with the lighter wood color up and the black spindles. Thank you for your posts, yes, I was wondering where you were and worrying it was about your parents... Liver is so tricky... perhaps the new immunotherapies like Avastin would help him? Also, maybe if he recovers with his other issues they might be able to try liver surgery to cut out the cancer, amazing how the liver will regrow after that. Hoping the best for you and your family.
