As some of you may know, my wife and i had a pretty turbulant summer. We were seperated for a few months and what not and are trying to rekindle everything. We are planning a trip for the end of March but cant decide on Punta Cana in the Dominican or Varadero Cuba. We have heard both good and bad about both. We have never been anywheres so we have nothing to compare it by. We have heard that the food is better in Dominican but the activities and beaches are better in Cuba. Have also heard that Cuba is a hundred fold safer when leaving the resort. Any ideas or comments would be appreciate (and yes SOB, i will get you the pic of me in my banana hammock bathing suit, quit bugging for it!)

Been to Cuba and been to the Dominican and I liked Cuba better. I was in the Dominican before all the trouble started and still liked Cuba better.

My family and I went to the Dominican Republic (Punta Cana) last summer and it was, by far, the worst vacation I have ever had. I could list the issues but the main ones were:

Extremely rude service (when you could get it)

Awful food, and the same crap every day

I got sick, the whole family got sick (and I lived in Mexico for almost 2 years and never got sick)

Too dangerous to leave the "compound"

etc etc etc

Don't know about Cuba, but I would rather go to the 7th circle of hell before I set foot in Punta Cana again

I went to Dominican Republic, and loved it....  But I did'nt do the touristic circuits, a business friend put introduced me to some people there, and in a few days I discovered a beatiful island, great nature, fine people and splendid women... Embarassed  Went upp to the Pic de Duarte, saw beautiful caves, splendid waters. Never was ill with food.  I did not feel insecure, as long as you are aware that in poor countries like these, people need to eat anyway, so never expose shiny Rolex or Tagheuer watches, lots od dollars etc etc.  I don't know Cuba yet, but will probably go there soon, was in Venezuela (before Chavez) and could only say the same things as above.

Why not consider a French Island, as the one I'm living on  (Martinique)..  Good (french) food, less poverty, beautiful beaches too.., and not more insecurity than anywhere else in the world.  Anyway, whatever you decide, just know that Graffitti has a fine cold beer for you and any other XI member in his bananarepublicfuckinrestaurantinthemiddleofthemarina waiting for you!  Take care bro!
