Hey

I just bought and downloaded BF3 and back to Karkand on my PC

However, no matter what type of game I try to play (multiplayer or campaing - so I can get all my controls set up without pissing too many people off) it goes to the battlelog and the starts initializing game and just sits there - forever

I have tried going into the folder direct and starting BF3 that way but it simply jumps me back to Origin

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Well thanks for that Bart you Ass - LOL

Seriously, nothing I have tried works. I have checked the online forums and it seems I am not the only one having this issue. I am totally frustrated, having paid well over 50 bucks for a game I cannot even play.

I even tried setting affinity for the origins program to a single core on my cpu as indicated as a possible solution then setting BF to all 8 with no success. (that seemed to work for some people)

Guess I will be giving MW3 a look as I know that works just fine - THIS SUCKS

Mine used to hang when i'd join a server, saying all the jargon of joining server, loading level but there was nothing on my screen only the battlelog ....then i realised the little bf3 icon in the task bar so i pressed that and into the game i went...So its possible it could be starting minimised to your task bar, sometimes it loads straight to game and sometimes it starts minimised, thats what happens with mine so its something to be aware of..

Nick, are you running this on a 32-bit system?  If you are, the following memory allocation fix may help you:

http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/forum/threadview/2832654489539637056/last/

It did the trick for me (but I also shut down all non-essential programs and processes before trying to play).

Thanks guys. I will check into this

WildBill - I don't get the BF3 icon so I dont think I am getting that far

DJ - I am running this on Windows 7, home premium, 64-bit so I dont think the memory fix will work.

I will also double check this though

Thanks again

I have the same issue sometimes.  I have to open Task Manager and end the BF3 process and try again.

Another tip is to right click and exit origin and try it from a fresh login.

Nick maybe you need someone who you trust with crossloop or Teamviewer 6 and let them get onto your PC and have a look for themselves, maybe that will explain what you are seeing a bit better, of course you need someone who will have an idea what is going on, that lets me out, it will probably be a simple fix but that's easy for me to say as it ain't happening for meSmile

maybe cavey can help out with it. He was able to use Teamviewer to help out with issues that I had.

Well thanks for the help from everybody and especially thank you to Rockape and Sonovabitch who were helping me through PM and were offering to hook up via xfire and walk me through it.

Problem is, the time I can play is late at night (Eastern time-US) when they are both, hopefully, asleep so I was determined to figure this out without bothering too many people, even though, as usual, the XI family is always willing to go out of their way and help.

Anyway, this is what I figured out

It seems, for some reason, Origins was downloading the BF3 files to the wrong location. It kept downloading them to the root directory in a folder called Battlefield3. Unfortunately, the origins downloader was set to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games. So I think once the game was downloaded it was looking for the files in the wrong place.

I tried manually moving the files to the right place but that didnt work because as soon as Origins started up it said I had to download the game again to the wrong location.

I researched online using the thread "BF3 files in wrong location" and after about 30-40 pages I found one that mentioned as a by-line "I had some old download cache files from BF2-Bad Company that kept forcing me to load to the root but once I deleted them it worked just fine" so I cleaned out every single file even remotely related to EA and it started downloading to the right location. I checked it this morning and it worked.

Thanks for the help and offer of further help. It is really appreciated. See you in game (though not tonight, for obvious reasons)

Happy New Year everyone.
