It's an outsider's view of the UK and its people and looks at the differences between the USA and UK. It promises to be revealing, entertaining if not absolutely hilarious! I picked out this from the newspaper's interview as it shows how distorted Brits' views of each other can be... "Did he notice any signs of a North-South divide? “Absolutely. Everybody in the North thinks that everybody in the South is stuck-up and thinks they’re better than them. Everybody in the South thinks everybody in the North is stupid and doesn’t know what really makes the world go around. It’s very much like America; there is a real divide there too.” " On this issue, if anyone bothers to journey to the North of England, they'll find that people up there have a much cheaper cost of living, employment prospects are better and quality of life is probably superior. So much cash has been poured into previously depressed areas and foreign companies like Nissan have been attracted. The perception is that we southerners are all rich, whereas one doesn't have to travel far from here to encounter communities with very high unemployment and little chance of finding work. We are all branded "Cockneys" whether or not we actually qualify for that description, due to the southern accent. I am the product of a North-South marriage (I am actually the only Londoner in my family!) so can celebrate the best of each end of England. The best black pudding is made in Bury, Lancashire, the best beer brewed in the Midlands, the best football played in Liverpool. But I always enjoy returning to "The Smoke" (as London is known colloquially, due to the pre-Clean Air Act smogs that used to blanket the city) as it does feel like going home. He did a good job with the junk food documentary, even though he damaged himself in the making of it. Shame the fools in London didn't take heed before signing up Ronald McDonald as the official caterer for the Olympics... Awards
