I'm quite fond of Nvidia but seriously even the 5870 is more powerful than the GTX 480. On trubritar's reviews the 480 won only one test and that was the dx11 heaven tessellation benchmark.

kk i was leaning more towards it mostly cuz the 480 has alot of heat disipation issues... 100 with air cooling when its cutoff is 105 and 68 with liquid... thats kinda hot for liquid

it depens what u do with your graphic card

those new nvidia cards are the only one that are compatible with new adobe CS5 for example, this means if u plan to use cs5 for whatever reason, photoshop, or premiere, after effects if u edit HD videos, u will enjoy it way more than with whatever ati card, because cs5 will use the nvidia card to render things, and that wont do with an ATI

now if its just for games, i would say, whatever both are great cards.

nvidia cards are maybe a bit faster for most games

Ok ....I own two 4870 x2 cards which were my old cards. Thats 4 GPU's total of 4gig video memory.  I changed them because quad fire just does not seem to work. Everywhere I turned and looked for help on that I got nothing but bad news as ATI has yet to come out with drivers that support all 4 GPU's. It seemed that xfire was only working on one card with two GPU's as only one of them got the slightest bit warm as mesured with a Mico temp laser thermonitor. Read that one of these cards were faster than two when put together. I bought two 5870 vaporX cards and they are in crossfire. I asked arround about the 5970's and was told to save my money. The 5970's were just a newer vertion of the 5870's and were not much better. But as always it is up to you.

im not an nvidia or ati fanboy

but i know nvidia had lots of drivers problems lately, and now they seems to have fixed a whole bunch of problems.

and i always trusted guru3d reviews, over the years they proved they dont review hardwares with a biaised view, so check this review

http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-470-480-review/
its always a little war between both brands but for my use, i would chose nvidia because of the cs5 compatibility, as i said before.

now if for game u are after 1, 2 or 5 fps difference, its up to you to choose. :)

shoot I'm still rocking the AGP architecture!  PCIe is for NOOB HACKS LOL jk  How is Windows 7 holding up with compatibility with PCIe cards?  I might be upgrading sometime late this summer but don't know if I wanna switch from XP to 7 until its stable and had most of the initial bugs worked out, like all new microsoft software.

I remember the days when a motherboard was a motherboard.  But now we got all these kick ass games and apps and porn LOL  gotta have something to take the strain off the OS and other hardware to perform well.  I still don't understand why motherboards are cheaper then video cards though.  Guess it's all the uber software they put on the chips.
