This is interesting... During North America's last glacial period, all the earthworms in Canada were killed or pushed all the way down to Tennessee. For thousands of year after, there were no earthworms in Canada or the Northern U.S. Even though they are supposed to be essential for soil and vegetation, and they are a food supply for birds, bats and rodents, North America survived just fine without them. All the earthworms in Canada and the northern U.S. today are descendants of earthworms accidentally brought to America by European settlers in the root balls of plants.

Both topics are very interesting and news to me. I had no idea that the glaciers wiped out worms and that the new ones were brought from Europe.

I guess we're all screwed until the next ice age.

That's amazing they checked the whole place for worms after the glaciers melted. Funny they waited so long to release their findings after such a massive search...

It was government funded.

Oh, in that case the results were prolly fudged because the funding never reached the end of the food chain where the work was done.

They were doing a study on global cooling, then the ice age ended.

I was hoping this post was about 'worms' the game. That's so fun to play!
