What? 90 million? That's over 25 percent of the population. Last stats say 4.9 percent unemployment rate which means 7.8 million are out of work.

There are 90 plus million that are "out of work force". That is 40 plus million who are retired, 20 millioin in school of any age, 20 million that are not looking to work like stay at home moms, disabled people etc and the rest are the unemployed.

The concerning stat is 40 percent of the 7.8 million unemployed are not looking for work.

@@hxtr never toss numbers out in front of statistic hounds. Population of the USA is probably close to 330m. The "official" unemployment is easily off by a factor of two, given that, you still would end up with only 33m unemployed, underemployed, and given up.

That's if 30 million able bodied unemployed can be considered acceptable. But hey, everything is just peachy according to the media. Be Happy!

Are 90 million Americans not working or not looking for work?

Do I fucking stutter?

My favorite comment about statistics was in Politico. "98% of every statistic posted on the internet is bullshit". That's one statistic I can get behind whole-heartedly. In Illinois it appears that 33% of the people are on disability, 33% work for the state, leaving the remaining third to foot the bill. Not factual, but close to the financial reality, hence our status as one of the most poorly run states. Also aptly describes our unsustainable future. Eventually, your turnip runs out of blood, no matter how hard you squeeze it.

Wish in one hand, shit in the other, and see which comes true first.

No Pete, it was one of the comments thrown back & forth during a heated discussion. I wasn't one of the commentors, just reading the dialogue, and that comment broke the angry rants into laughter. Just something missing from most posts anymore, an injection of humor to remind us we're human, and we're dealing with human issues. Cold printed law and wooden posturing don't offer many solutions that are functional.
