is there a better or proper size and scale for doing terrain? 3x3, 16x16??? size of patch as in width and length?

the one i had was just 1 big piece, i know that is not right because i can't make holes where i want them for the tunnels.

any info on this?

thanks

I generally go with a patch size of 1024 x 1024 in size and depending on the level of detail, go with 16 x 16 or higher.  Just copy that patch piece an so on to create the larger  terrain area.  Remember that any 1 patch segment can't have more than 31 or 32 vertices.

i do cod4, it doesn't get higher than 16x16... are you thinking loadscreen 1024x1024 because that's tiny, it would take a week to produce terrain that small lol

what did you say timmy, i blocked you and that fat pizza eating bitch, mappers dude, piss off!

thanks markoff

i went with 16x16 and around 1500x1700 patches, it was almost perfect for not leaving terrain under my layout. i still haven't placed a texture yet but i think it will be what i need in the end.
