To whomever can help...

I used to get this error when playing the game through my computer speakers.  To "fix" it, I simply plugged in my headset/mic.  Now, it's all the time and COD4 will not start due to this error.  Any ideas on how to fix it?

I tried to fix it via this suggestion:  https://ccm.net/faq/4482-cod-4-crashes-iw3mp-exe-has-stopped-working

But the problem is back.  Any suggestions are welcome.  Thanks!

No, I connect via Steam, so it just hangs and hangs, then the error box pops up.

Hmmm, I think I got it.  I ran a registry cleaner (Glary Utilities), re-started and that seemed to do the trick.

Do yourself a favor and back up a copy of your 1w3mp.exe and your player folder on a separate drive and your usersmap folder if you want
