dollardogg plz buy another cooler later no oc until then Ya, I just installed the Corsair H70 with fans in push/pull. I didn't OC until after I installed it yesterday. I haven't seen CPU temps above 45 since I installed it, even when I was above 4Ghz.

Ok, this is a final on the build. I know this is an old post.. but me and MoFo are gonna chat a bit about overclocking Here it is MoFo, the rig: - AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Thuban 3.3GHz, 3.7GHz Turbo Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor - CORSAIR Hydro H70 CWCH70 120mm High Performance CPU Cooler - ASUS Crosshair IV Formula - AM3 - AMD 890FX - ATX Motherboard - 2 - SAPPHIRE 100290SR Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT) 2GB vid cards - 8 gigs (2 kits) of G.SKILL PI 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL6D-4GBPI - SilverStone ST1000-P 1000W 80+Silver Power Supply - Sony Optiarc Black 24X DVD+R blah blah blah Burner - A bunch of Sata HD's (not great transfer rates, but had them already.. WD 500G's) About 4 Tb total lol. - COOLER MASTER HAF X RC-942-KKN1 Black Steel/ Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case At first, I had 'better' ram.. but I changed my mind because this ram is CAS6, whereas the ram I had originally bought was CAS9 (8 gigs (2 kits) of G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 - PC3 16000). I did a lot of reading and thought that the Pi would be better in the long run. Any suggestions on OC would be fine. Frankly, I've read so much on the subject that at the moment, I'm numb. Hopefully, some of it will sink in and I can tweak around on it some more. I'm currently running stock configuration. I auto OC'ed to around 4, but it appears it (IT being AMD overdrive) only boosted the CPU voltage to achieve it). I tweaked around on some other settings.. Bus Speed and such.. but it never got stable under load. The only thing I OC'ed that was stable was to about 3.85, and that is stock TURBO.. so I don't really count that.

CplMOFO Keep in touch, let me know which CPU/mobo you got and we can look at "safe" settings... Will do.. I think I will post it on the bottom of my build thread.. if I can find it.. that way it doesn't clutter yours

MoFo.. you must be pretty satisfied. I re-read this thread just to refresh the whole ordeal in my mind. You were shooting for 4.6Ghz so you are more than successful. I started playing with some OC settings today, since I installed my Corsair H70 cooler. I didn't want to push too much with the stock cooler. I was torn 3 ways between the Thermaltake FRIO, the Noctua D14 and the H70. All of them are really great coolers.. but I went with the H70 after reading a billion reviews. Needless to say, I know almost absolutely zero about OCing. I did some auto stuff that pushed to right at 4Ghz stable, but all my manual stuff so far has been unstable after some time on high load. Oh well, I guess there is only reading stuff and DOING to learn. I can run 3.8Ghz with ice forming on the CPU with this H70 I am satisfied with the new cooler and will NOT be buying anything new to stick in this case.... for at least a week (although.. after seeing your rig.. I have found myself slinking around the Sandybridge 2500K ads in Newegg.. ya know a mobo and cpu would be all I needed to test an intel rig) Let me run away and play some games and get that thought outta my head!!!

All I can tell you is when I used to have this problem, I would reload my vid drivers (latest version) and it would go away for a while. After a few vid driver revisions, it seemed to stop. That is when I had Nvidia. I have never had that problem on ATI (just saying.. I dig Nvidia). I have no idea if it was a conflict, or if that was just all coincidence but it worked. You can read all day all over the internet that it's your direct x drivers, or it is vid drivers, or it is xfire interfering with the game... and 10,000 other reasons/fixes. From the problem that I had, which is exactly like yours, a reload of my vid drivers cleared it up for a bit. It happened enough that for a time I kept a shortcut to my vid driver execute file on my desktop. Good Luck!

Try to get to your task bar when that is happening and see if you can tell what device is doing it. Sounds like a device that has a short, possibly USB... so it looks to the computer like you are plugging and unplugging. Just a thought.

Simple answer: Just tinker around with it. Your particular monitor and computer capability will dictate what resolution and settings work best for you. Even though I can max out my system on 1920 x 1080, I find that I like the looks and feel of 1680 x 1050 better. I'm sure there are others here that can give advice on advanced properties and settings. I too would be interested to hear some of that advice.

It was good to play a few rounds with ya MoFo. ACE is the fastest I've ever played on. It's not for everyone, but it sure is a lot of fun. Look forward to some more matches with ya!!!

Yeah SOB.. if you are trying to use Chrome.. it doesn't work well with images (dunno why). Whenever I want to embed images, I have to switch to firefox to do all that.
