  2. Hope to see you back in WAW soon Renegade. Good luck!
  3. I use Sophos AV on my PC (my version uses the Sophos and AVG engines. I have a Sophos firewall running at the edge of my home network) as well as Malwarebytes free version http://www.malwarebytes.org/
  4. And you link to a (flawed) desktop PC! The PC has a bit of ways to go before it disappears. Sure, the growth is in tablets, phablets, and smartphones, but the PC has its entrenched place in business productivity, real gaming, and anything that requires complex input. Most of the 3 items I mentioned are accessories or are ancillary to PC's. Disclaimer: My home has several iOS and Android tablets and phones, Windows 7/8 PC's, iMac's, a Hackintosh, and Linux servers.
  5. Checked your volume settings in Control Panel? Volume control knob in on head phones (obvious, but ya gotta look at all things)?Proper hardware set as default audio playback device in Control Panel?
  6. Nice rig you have there Merlin! That should keep you going for a good long time.
  7. "Researchers are closing in on a means to detect previously undetectable stealthy malware that resides in peripherals like graphics and network cards. The malware was developed by the same researchers and targeted host runtime memory using direct memory access provided to hardware devices. They said the malware was a 'highly critical threat to system security and integrity' and could not be detected by any operating system." Good to see that the "white hats" are staying on top of the threat vectors. My home network is locked down tighter than many Fortune 500 networks (seriously - Dedicated Sophos Unified Threat Management Server + layered security/anti-malware apps on clients, encrypted browser sessions, etc.), and yet I know that (thanks NSA!) we are still vulnerable. Luckily, my network and personal information is about as interesting as plain melbatoast. Security through obscurity. I still shudder when I look at 3 of my server's security logs and see the hack attempts. Mostly from China, followed by Russia. And that's despite geo-blocking of IP addresses.
  8. Bullshit! It was the rib recipe he posted a while back that was the only good thing Chile gave us! My wife won't let me make them any other way now. Welcome back to your "real" game-name, bro!
  9. Happy birthday to my fave Conservative in the game!
  10. Shit, a few of them triggered some fond memories!
  11. ...I need a scorecard... I always sheepishly thought of you as ENG4INE while you doggedly played as as the 45th herder of sheep, you dawg!
  12. Win 8 uses memory and resources much better than win 7, plus it adds a crazy amount of enhancements. If you want the Win 7 experience (boot to desktop, Start Menu), and a much-refined under-the-hood OS, download and install "Classic Shell" http://www.classicshell.net/. I use it on my laptop and will soon migrate my desktop to it. There's no reason not to. Classic Shell will lessen the need to see the Metro/Modern interface, but even that interface is more of a feature enhanced Start menu.
  13. FU Jim! That's MY title! LOL!
  14. Ok, where is the "unsee" option in my brain's software. My eyes! They burn...!
  15. Holy crap! Now THAT is a wasp nest! Ours were (love being able to use the past-tense) your run-of-the-mill yellowjacket. They just built the nest sideways to fit the space. The nest's opening was on the left-hand side.
  16. ...and mission accomplished! We sealed the crack, and I injected more foam into the nest and scraped it into a big blue recycling bucket. After all the chemicals that were injected into the hive, there was one left living...but not for long. I'll have to take down the 4 tiles between the window and the nest as there are a ton of dead ones on top of them, and take some gloves and a scraper to get the rest of the bits and pieces left. Last, we'll have to scrub the room thoroughly to get rid of the chemicals. I don't want my pups going near the room until that's done.
  17. To be fair, Shamu is not an >XI< member (despite overtures from the clan), so he can check in when he damn-well feels like it! Good to hear from you Shamu, I was worried there for a bit. Hope to see you in-game again soon. Cheers, - Astronomer
  18. For the past month or so we've been finding a wasp here, a wasp there in the house. We couldn't figure out where they're coming in. I did a check about 5 days ago and saw a continuous stream coming and going from the corner of a basement window. It's in a recessed well, so I ducked down and looked up, and saw a crack in the window casing. It looked like JFK airport at a peak busy time. That evening, I sprayed wasp killer up into the crack, and went downstairs into the room, my server room, and sprayed up into the drop ceiling. I looked up and didn't see a nest, so I thought they were in the wall. I also fogged that room with wasp killer each evening as well, A few dozen dead ones have accumulated. I also noticed in the room above the server room several dead wasps near the window. Anyway, I repeated the spraying at night and early morning and the flow of wasps fell to a small trickle. Today, my wife found 8 in the house. I went back downstairs - with hard-hat, goggles etc - and I noted several dead wasps over by the closet, and I removed the ceiling tile closest to it. There were at least 60 wasps on the tile, some moving. The nest that you see is about 15"x9". I just fogged the upstairs and downstairs rooms with wasp spray, and soaked the nest with wasp killer. I hear some angry buzzing coming out of it! I then fogged that room, closed the door, and put a towel under the door. In about an hour, I'll inject wasp-killing insecticide foam into the nest. This should take care of the bastards! The crack will be sealed tomorrow. Did I mention that I'm allergic to wasp stings?
  19. Hey there Hawkeye, Sorry to see you have to leave the game. You're a good mate to play with. I hope you can turn that ping issue around and join us again soon!
  20. My sincere condolences to you, sir.
  21. Ooooo-yeaaaahhhh...we're politely bad-ass up here. Thanks for the vids!
  22. There is still the facts that Kessler is the head of the "Constitution Security Force", that was found to have illegally strip-searched a councilman who dared to speak out against him, and that the community felt intimidated by him and his thug friends, including those who wanted to speak at the meeting and were greeted by the thugs bearing arms. Hyperbole in the article aside, this arse is ill-fit to be in the Chief of Police role. Strip out any political bent and look at the facts, this guy is a serious douchnozzle.
  23. Yikes! What do you do when the Police Chief is in charge of these nuts? What is best solution to end this situation? Through the courts? FBI or National Guard intervention? The thugs will just melt away when the authorities arrive. At the very least Chief Kessler needs to be removed from office and charged with domestic terrorism and multiple counts of violating civil rights (freedom of assembly, freedom of speech, etc). http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/08/03/armed-militia-holding-pennsylvania-town-hostage/
