Seems a lot has to do also with how careful you are with them. If you throw them around then they need to be beefier in their construction. But if they never leave your desk then more options might be available. I agree, get a headphone amp. Even a basic one is better than realtek. Just to note, I have read that there can be sound degradation if you have things amped up by both the card and the headset. Best to only do only or the other. But thats just internet reading.
For gaming vs studio. I paid $100+ for my standard headset. I dont have a lot of money to spend on such things. Not a great one certainly but supposed to be good for its class. My gaming set, which cost a bit less, sounds significantly better for some reason for both games and music. At least to my old ears. So its a crap shoot and there is no substitute for actually listening to them.
edit. the $100 set were on a good sale so retail was around $150 at the time.
