Excellent post! I have had the privilege of meeting two MOH recipients. Once was as a passenger on a plane. MOH recipients have special MOH Polo shirts they wear when attending special events. I noticed a passenger wearing one of these shirts. I bought him a drink and spoke to him for a while. It turned out he was none other than Bruce Crandall. He was the helo pilot who flew with Ed "too Tall to Fly" Freeman from the book/movie "We were soldiers once, and young". You may remember the movie as it starred Mel Gibson. After chatting with him for a few minutes I informed one of the flight attendants who he was and what he had done. I went on to say it would be a very nice gesture if the Captain could make an announcement to inform the passengers. The next thing I know I am on the phone (intercom) with the Captain explaning it all to him. He was flabbergasted to say the least. Anyway, after we had landed and pulled into the gate the Captain made his announcement and told the passengers what Mr. Crandall had done. I watched his expression during this and he was fighting back tears. The passengers erupted into applause. It was an awesome moment.
