I received my new graphic cards a couple of days ago.

because I am used to play Crysis or Black Ops I had to upgrade my PC.LOL

and I wanted to be prepared for the new Crysis2 coming out in March 2011.

I had 2x ATI 5770 Vapor-x@crossfire before and this combined with a 4Ghz cpu was a nice combination to play all games on high resolutions but not at the highest Wink

and this did not work with my 3x27" monitor setup to play on all three with eyefinity

a thread at techpowerup came to my attention...

unlocking ATI Radeon 6950

if you have a look at the test results, this works with 98% of the cards

I decided to buy 2 cards and to have a closer look at this

this was my choice

Powercolor ATI Radeon 6950 @newegg

just be aware...

its pretty safe to do this because of the dual bios of the new ATIs

BUT there is no warranty this will work

here we go....

this is what it looked like before in GPU-Z

this is what it looks like now after the bios flash

121760,gpuz1x695069707JL9U.jpg

scores with one 6950

121761,3dmarkvantage1x69504ghzxtreme2F8TK.jpg

scores with 6950@6970

121762,3dmarkvantage1x695069704ghzxtreme0MF2S.jpg

thats an increase of almost 12 % on xtreme presets and it took me 5 mins to flash the card

here are my scores for the new Crossfire setup now

121763,3dmarkvantage2x695069704ghzxtremeQ6KWZ.jpg

the ATI Radeon 6950 is being offered for 299$

the 6970 for 369$ at newegg

in Europe they are offered for 240€(6950)and 310€ for the 6970

conclusion :

looks like I saved 140€....

enough money to make my girlfriend a little happier Cool

at least enough to go out for dinner sometimes LOL

if you have any questions on this hit me up

Regards

Nice one Nightmare...

Which CPU and motherboard do you have? C2Q, i5, i7 1156 or 1366?

I really dig those HD6950 in Crossfire, their scaling and performance is awesome...

I might grab two of those in March (tax return period lolz).

The thing is, my Q9550, even Overclocked to 3.8, and the oldie-goldie P45 platform, might not be the best foundation for two of those cards...

So I hesitate between a platform upgrade (possibly Sandy Bridge 2600K+ H70 watercooler/Mobo) and keeping my XFX HD5870 for another year, or grab two Hd6950s...

I have an Asus Sabertooth i55 with a core i5 750 at 4 GHZ. thats a socket 1156 board

not the best foundation for these cards either

they are not connected with full speed while using crossfire... but it works pretty nice LOL

a single card will not be this much better like your 5870...but in CF they are awesome

like you said scaling etc...

just the best buy for the money atm

Nice man. ATI Fo life...... Wait AMD... it does say AMD lolz!!!   I still think it us funny now people can have an intell and AMD badge right next to each other. AMD Radeon HD 6900 serries I be damned says so right on GPUz. First time I actually took the time to notice that. Nice setup man. Love it!!!

you will have a lot of issues if the net.framework is not installed properly or corrupted somehow...so true lol

I had this a couple of times....but not a big deal if yyou know how to fix it...

atm its just a matter of taste what to order

the GTX 570 is as good as my modded 6950....but still the 6950 is a lot cheaper
