Running processes can significantly impact the performance of your PC, especially if they are malicious or capturing information about your computer usage without your knowledge. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to bring up your Task Manager and click on the Processes tab. If any of the running processes do not look familiar to you, look them up in our library.

RogueKill
That always scares me to fuck around with that.

You really can't mess anything up Rougekill,  just restart your computer if you shut something down that you need.

I haven't been over to pc pitstop for awhile, that's too bad if they've changed - used to be a wonderful website.

Warning!!!  Many malware can spoof themselves as legit processes.  An exmaple is svchost.exe.   I know some people will go, "fuck I have loads of those running!!!"  That's normal.  However I know of one Trojan that spoofs itself as svchost.exe.

What I'm saying, is that there is no substitute to a good (yes pay for it) Internet Security Suite.

My company laptop has Microsoft Security Essentials running on it. Being Microsoft, of course it is a huge system hog, so I wouldn't recommend adopting it for a gaming rig

I get Norton Internet Security FREE from Comcast for up to 10 computers in the house and to be honest it does the job. It has found a lot of attacks when I decide to look at some less than salubrious websites like, for example Pirate Bay (What, I was shopping for an eye patch - thought it was a shopping site - really)

I do know that Comcast dropped their free McAfee product because it sucked ass - I tend to agree, it didn't seemed to stop anything

We use PCPitstop optimize for our network (6 computers ) along with diskeeper pro on all our drives ---have not found anything better at keeping my machines free of fragmentation and at their best for gaming .  only snag we have experienced was with optimize resetting what the killer nic card changed back to default settings every time we ran our weekly scan--tech support at pcpitstop worked with me to resolve the issue and it has now become integrated into their product for those that use a killer nic card for gaming (eg.. a card that optimizes windows packeting and prioritation processes  for gaming )  Prices for both fit easily into our monthly gaming budgets and honestly I would not be comfortable not using them on all my systems after being successful with them for so long ...

When I assist others with optimizing their rigs for gaming dominance (or at least the machine part of it :) ) these programs are passed along as some of the tools to be at your best in whatever game you choose to play .

although optimize will shutdown all non essential background services --remember this is also a feature of windows7 now ---

goto startup and type in performance options ---select performance (eg.. gaming )/restart your machine and windows will take many of the startup  processes out of the lineup until you select a different option ---may be an option for those on a limited budget.
