A group of workers on a manufacturing

assembly line type information into a computer. They take a training

class on how to use a computer, especially as related to data entry. You

want to understand if the computer training was effective. How would

you go about this, using statistical techniques?

Depends on what your measuring and the data in put.

if you know you make 10 cars a day and only 9 are reported you know the data was wrong.

If you are looking for time effective shortcuts look at the time stamp vs. production rate in each area.

If you are looking for goof offs put solitaire on the machine.

Compare parts used as to parts in stock. Gives you a hint as to the lead time for reordering parts.

Hope this gives you a start.

Did they use the same computer system before the training?  If so how have error rates been affected?

Are they spending less time performing tasks after training than before?

how often in observation do they stand and stare at the screen vs actually looking engaged in there position on the keyboard? i dont know if statistically you can accurately measure the effectiveness of the computer training other than direct comparison of production output before and after. If output is less, training sucked and operators are idiots. If output is equal to or greater than, training successful and these people are ready to put the round peg in the round hole. Also, what percent of learning curve for actual production output vs time allotted to assimilate all new training techniques via computer use has been set?

When we switched systems to SAP..(which fucking sucks) we allowed a 3 week ramp in for production to go from 50% normal back to 100%. We beat the curve in the shipping dept by 2 1/2 weeks...because the production end of the facility tried to ramp production to 90% after 2 days to make sure production supervisors met or beat output standards to get there quarterly bonus ...greedy fuckn bastards. Good luck wild, you idiot...btw happy bday!

You would have to get them to preform some form of data entry into a data base and check for speed and errors. base there scores how ever it makes sence. Then repeat the test at the end of the course. The difference in the score would give you some information on how much they improved. AS well if you had a test in the middle of the course you would be able to pin point where in the course the most learning is acomplished. :0
