I was just talking to Princess on facebook and she was able to play COD4 for the first time in months yesterday. She said the play was good except her computer would just shut clear down> I am looking for any ideas what this could be but remember she knows nothing about computers and she will be reading all responses so PLEASE make them layman language so she can understand what the possibilities are and what if she can do anything about fixing it! Dr House isn't with her at the moment he is out serving our country! Lets help this sweet lil lady the IDIOT style as only we can! OooAaaaa!

Check the CPU and GPU temperature...

She can use "Speccy". It shows many system information. The temperatures shouldn't be above 70° C when the PC is idling. When she's playing

it will climb up to 90 or 100° C. To prevent damage the puter will be shutdown automatically.

Clean the computer. In many cases there is a lot of dust inside.

Start with what nightfly said. shut the computer down, and unplug it, and get a vaccuum cleaner to clean around any of the fan ports. clean around the inside, but be careful not to hit anything and knock it loose. do not touch any components on the inside with your hand unless you are touching the inside of the case at the same time. Touching the inside of the case will discharge your static, and keep you from building any static while you are touching it. the more dust and gunk you can remove from the inside, the more air can flow to help keep it cool. if you can get to the processor heatsink, you can carefully use a Qtip to clean betweent the fins if they are spread enough. heat sink will be a square usually, block of alluminum with a lot of fins on it. Don't remove it cause there is a heat paste under it, and putting it back on properly is sometime a real chore.

this will only help if it is a temperature problem. but if the comp has any age on it, and this has never been done, then its a good place to start. and makes for good practice anyway. dust is your enemy on electronics period.

to use the speccy program, just download it from http://download.cnet...4-75181811.html install this program, and let your computer just set for a few minutes, and get a reading by just double clicking on speccy. the main wiondow that opens by default will tell you temps of processor, graphics card, and hard drives.

let us know what the temps look like. and then go play a round or 2 of your game, and exit it, and immediately run speccy again to see the difference of temps.

then we'll go from there .

If this is like my problem in COD 5 where my PC shuts off all but the fans and the last comment in game voice might keep repeating itself I will add what I can.

My PC has been cleaned. No help.

Ran two programs checking for heat. No overheat.

Had a system check at Best Buy Geeks, all looked okay.

They suggested a possible power feed problem. Bought a new surge protector for accessories and plugged PC directly into wall outlet. Seemed to help a little, problem still occurs but not as often.

Stopped at the company that built my PC, Red Barn Computers, they suggested pulling RAM sticks and cleaning with canned air. Also agreed the problem could be power related when the system is taxed.

Drivers are updated and even played with System Restore. No help.

If hardware is replaced first choice would be the power supply but first try a different outlet for the PC.

Have not yet pulled RAM sticks for cleaning.

But if your problem is like mine I wish you good luck. I did get a lot of comments from people trying to help but none worked.

easyest way to find out if its heat related is to take of (facing the computer) left side panel. Its 2 little screws on the back real easy unscrew them and pull the panel back. Then get a small table fan and have it blow air into the computer while she plays. It she doesn't crash its a heat issue. Then come back here and say ya or na. Very simple and fast way to see whats what.

Shamu I thought you were going to have your son change the power supply ??
