I've been trying to connect tonight without success.

First on the Anema (?) map, I got:

Impure client detected. Invalid .IWD files referenced.

c:\program files\activision\call of duty 2\main\xiz.iwd

I Googled the problem and gathered I had to delete the offending file.

I did that and tried to reconnect...

Same error - this time on the Cherbourg map - with the offending file shown as kk.iwd

Any thoughts/ideas gratefully received.

(I have not tried connecting to a non-XI server yet)

Um... the DM server has been down for the past 4d 9h at the time I write this. Aftermath of Sandy. Are you talking about an other server, perhaps?

Edit:

Should probably clarify that the server may be up, but users cannot be authenticated due to outages at Activision. HLSW is the source of the down time I quoted above.

Whenever there are new maps added it seems like there are always old iwd files that conflict. Yes you need to remove them, and sometimes you need to remove several before being able to play. It's a pain in the ass but once it's done you don't have to worry about it until the next round of map changes.

To my knowledge none of the COD2 servers have been down recently. They're all up as I type this and two have people playing on them.

You have to remove all the files that conflict on the COD 2 servers. Sometimes it could be several files. It takes a little time but once your done you are good to go.

Thanks for the advice. I presume I should do this as the error messages appear not delete *.iwd?

no, no..don't go deleting things in anger. I have made that mistake & thrown away stock maps. Patiently log back in and record the offending .iwd and delete until you can join the game. Yes, it's a pain in the arse, but it really doesn't take that long.

If you delete all of the iwd files you will spend hours re-downloading the ones you need to play. Like beer says, only the ones that it tells you are conflicting.

Sorry, you didn't say COD2 and since I usually play on the COD5 DM server - often with you - I though that's the one you meant.

Only delete the conflicting Iwd. files. DO NOT REMOVE ANY STOCK MAPS. If you need any help just PM me.

OK, I am getting the same issue, but a little different

My message states there is a conflict with ww.iwd

The problem is, it is nowhere to be found on my computer. I have been playing the new rotation for days and this only happens on the POW Camp map

I have deleted everything not stock (yes, I do know what to delete and what not to delete)

It tries to download one file from the tdm server for some reason, then craps out again

It is getting very frustrating - please help

Thanks in advance

Nick, the only help I can offer is suggesting that you stop jerking off on your keyboard. :welcome:

Sometimes an iwd file is hidden, can't really explain why. Try searching your main hard drive for it and then delete it.

Well I found it here:

C:\Users\********\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty 2\main

Never would have thought of looking there!!!!

Not even sure how that got there but I am damn sure it is going to be empty about 10 seconds after I post this - LOL

Damn, I was hoping you wouldn't figure it out for a few days and we would have some peace and quiet on the COD2 servers.
