Very nice looking welding beads. Very pretty. I tigged stainless steal once.. not too hard but aluminum. I think I would burn that shit up. lol Hemps 1

Not sure if you can get flash burns but still. But they may have fixed that.

Sorry, HXTR, need disagree with you but also admit at one time I thought the same as you. They have become an industry standard and work very well. With TIG welding it allows you to be right on your start point without guessing in the dark. But my neighbor a welder told me not even long ago they were bad. Sure things have changed as he as not welded professionally in a bit. About as old as you... Very old. lol jk But so understand about being right up on it. Aim and seeing the puddle as it happens and able to keep that focus. That would have helped me big time period. One thing I hate is when using stick stick and trying to start on a spot you have to them end up moving pulling the hood down. TIG is way worse. You have to be precise and two steady hands to make it work and make it look great as these pictures. I need mistake room like like in a MIG, ARC or Oxy. I want a plasma torch... I want to cut stuff up. What a cool invention. . Hemps 1

I tried tig stainless about 8 months about. My boss that moved had a rig. Look me a bit to get close enough to see the puddle. Once I got it started it was moving along good. Look ok but with practice sure I could get better. Stick was great for when smoking weed at school. The made enough smell and smoke to hide anything. lol hahaha

Many dies are bigger than a large desk. It is a forging die for a crankshaft that is worn and needs repair. The impression is gouged out using carbon arc and the refilled with specific weld material using the GMAW (MIG) process with 1/8" diameter wire. We call it "Flood Welding" and the puddle diameter is often in excess of 2" diameter. Volts are about 32-34 and amperage about 600 to 800. Water cooled torches are generally used but so are some air cooled torches (guns). A competitors video of a manipulator we also sell. Most times they are welded with hand held MIG guns, not a fun job in the heat of summer. Dies are heated to 950 deg F for welding and heat is controlled throughout the process followed by specific heat treating procedures depending on the base alloy and weld alloys used. After heat treatment it is re-sunk by CNN or EDM. Then back in service with usually better die life than the original base alloy. Edited October 19, 2013 by Shamu Hemps 1
