I have a corded SteelSeries Sensei gaming mouse that has worked well since I received it a few years ago.

Lately, however, the thing turns off randomly both in game and when on the web.

I have researched the problem and it appears to be common and affects all makes of mouse.

Some people have linked it to a Windows Update (I use Win 7, 32-bit, like many of those affected), others to an AV update.

I have followed suggestions to disable power saving options connected to USB root hubs and Windows' own power management.

This seemed to be effective until the return of the problem, this morning.

If you have experienced this problem and successfully solved it, please respond.

(The web is full of "have you checked x" and "it might be y" so I'd rather hear of solutions, please.)

Thanks.

It's important to verify that you're not having any plug-and-play type of events associated with this issue. If any indicator L.E.D.s, including the mouse's transmit diodes, happen to cycling on/ off. You could simply be having connectivity issues/ possible defective mouse. If your mouse cord did twist up a bit, you could have a defective cord on the mouse.

Cleaning the optical path can cause the same sort of symptom, however, the indicator L.E.D.s will stay lit, rather than cycle on/ off as mentioned above.

Are you running multiple GPUs? It is possible that a driver is responsible/ or hardware changes with existing architecture led to this. It is potentially possible that an updated USB 3.0 driver is the culprit. This issue comes up when PCI Express Lanes are reduced by GPU consumption, not allowing the USB system to those lanes for use, which they need, forcing them to down-grade to low async speeds. Imagine your high end mouse trying to send all that data across 128K connection, it is a substantial overrun of data.

If you can post your configuration? Remember that if you're on X99/ 2011, that's all I need to root out USB driver issues.

I got as far as "USB root hubs" Root???? what is a Root? Now if a Rout.. cool.. just not a root. Rooters don't exist unless you dig roots for a living. Routers ( R-out-er) do exist . lol

Did you try buying a new mouse and seeing if that fixes the problem. If that don't work by a new PC. If that does not work buy a new house. If that does not work move to a new timezone. Guarantee one of them pieces of advice will work.  Solutions... not suggestions. :)

And the fucking Yanks made the word Router so you best start saying it correctly. :)

I know you don't want a suggestion but if it were my issue I would delete you usb root hub and restart your PC which should successfully reinstall it. Just to rule out a possible corruption issue with the hub.

I didn't read any of the other responses.  TL;DR.

But first of all - don't use a cordless mouse.  Your mouse is your primary connection to your gun.  Wire that shit up.

Second off...

Nuke it from orbit.  Only way to be sure.

I would never refer to my colonial cousins in such a derogatory way.  The word "septic" is entirely adequate (Cockney Rhyming Slang).

"Router" is derived from "route" and its origins in the English language are from Old French "rute" and Latin "rupta".

It was, thus, "made" by the Romans and not the Americans.

@DeeJayKeg_XI, I would suggest you try another forum or at least another mouse. Your problem is quite common, purchasing/ replacing the mouse has solved this issue for me now three times, not to mention the countless tickets I've read over from numerous repair personnel. Piss off!
