With the exception of the "boobs & bun" forum for XI members, which has a small but devoted group of people that post almost daly, nearly all new posts on this web site are in the general forum for everybody to see. General means just that, and I really don't see a need to have special forums for different subjects when they can all be posted in one place. You really aren't missing much lately in the members only forums. If you want to talk about something just throw it out there, I doubt if anybody will mind.

I think maybe you're all missing the point of why the cops were issuing citations. The group of people weren't simply standing on a freeway overpass waving American flags. They were having a political rally/protest, and most towns and cities require that those be permitted in advance. If you look carefully at the signs the men are holding and the big banner they tied to the fence, it said IMPEACH OBAMA. Now, most of you know me well enough to realize that I happen to agree with those guys, but I also have enough brains not to do it over a freeway where what I'm doing could distract drivers and cause an accident. A few years ago in the town where I live a similar protest was happening on a freeway overpass and a family of 4 was killed in an accident that resulted from the protest. Call me old fashioned but I can think of better ways to protest our government than endangering people's lives just to get my point across.

What they're doing is called "planned obsolescence" and most companies do it one way or another. Most video game consoles are re-released every few years and the new systems won't play games from old consoles. Car manufacturers stop making parts for older models so it's difficult to keep older cars maintained. Apple is one of the best at this scam. Unlike most cell phones consumers can't easily change the battery in iphones, and having Apple do it for you costs just a little less than buying a completely new iphone. They also force users of old iphones to upgrade their operating systems which made the phones run much slower, thereby making the new versions look much more appealing. More than anything Apple appeals to their devoted users who want the latest and greatest versions of their products. Just watch the news when there is a new release of an apple product to see the thousands of people standing in line. It's really sad to see how easily people are suckered.

I'm no iphone fan but don't think they're the only ones who make cheap products that are designed to fail after a short time. Damn near everything you buy these days is made that way, especially cars and consumer electronics.
