  1. Happy St George’s Day, Idiots!
  2. You will be better once your immune system exchanges checksums with Bill Gates...
  3. Почему ты печатаешь по-русски?
  4. I've signed up. Which Scrabble dictionaries are in use?
  5. I have started a game with you. It is your turn first.
  6. Ah, I see you too are a member of the Insomnia Club. I blame St Thomas' Hospital for destroying my circadian rhythm...
  7. Wow... One Cessna Citation over the whole of East Kent and, just off the picture, the air ambulance is heading towards Ashford.
  8. Bill Gates is ignoring you! Contact Microsoft Support!
  9. Get a new prescription. Your meds aren't working...
  10. We are right under one of the main corridors to Gatwick (LGW) and Heathrow (LHR) and even trans-Atlantic non-stop flights from Europe. It is very quiet at the moment as so few aircraft are flying. I have made more use, over the years, of Marinetraffic.com, to identify ships transitting the English Channel.
  11. My brother and sister-in-law are volunteers for the National Trust (for the benefit of cousins overseas, that is a NGO that looks after land and property gifted to the state in lieu of death duties). Before they could resume their duties welcoming visitors to the stately home where they help out, they were required to complete an online Diversity Course... My brother is 77 years old and worked for London's Met Police for 45 years so you can imagine how this went down. After four days from obtaining his certificate, he has forgotten everything the course "taught him"! The organisation is losing members by the thousands over cr@p like this but the lefties running it carry on regardless. If they write to me asking for money, I shall give a very non-PC response ending in "off"! Read all about it: National Trust orders volunteers to take diversity training to 'raise awareness' of 'biases' | Daily Mail Online
  12. I would caution against use of SSRIs e.g. citalopram. The brain is not a chemistry experiment and these harmful drugs will take you to the edge of the precipice before yanking you back (hopefully). Doctors love them because it is a cheap "fix" and they don't actually have to lift a finger to help you. My current GP honoured my request for no more chemicals and signed me up to a counsellor who then stopped holding sessions due to Covid! Curiously, I am better equipped to deal with misery...
  13. Thank you @Majbasil for your intelligent and thoughtful response. Vaccines arrived too late for my dear old mother-in-law, God rest her soul. As for masks, they are a significant improvement in most cases.
  14. You mention a paint drying video... I can do better! I made a video of an electric narrowboat toilet and the last time I checked it had received over 1600 views! YouTube wanted to monetise my channel!!!
  15. Continual server timeouts since this morning mean I cannot get in... I guess someone is going to say it is a problem at my end? Ho hum...
  16. It happens all the time... I am certainly not alone in suffering these problems but maybe alone in voicing them. I did wonder if it might be caused by more than one player trying to download the map at the same time. It is odd that the name of the map appears onscreen immediately before some kind of reset that switches the transfer speed down to circa 15KBps. If there's a way to grab the files other than sit in front of a black screen, I'm up for it. Thanks.
  17. I ran the Crucial scanner (I have bought RAM from them before) and it shows my system is already above average. I have made a mental note to save up for an SSD.
  18. Thanks for the suggestion which works sometimes but not all the time. If the game hangs before it finishes setting up, a complete restart is required. /quit also works to dump one out of the game. ALT/ESC doesn't work.
  19. I don't know why this occurs but please explain if you do... When the map changes to one I don't have, there is an evens chance that the transfer rate falls to <15KBps, meaning there is zero chance of playing the map and it would take on average 50 minutes to download. As there is no way of breaking out of the download, the only option is to restart my PC which means at least three minutes waiting for the desktop to reappear (I use Win 10 which I hate). Is there any chance the misbehaving redirect could be fixed (this problem which also affects COD5 has been an unwelcome feature for many months now.)? Is there a repository of COD4 maps where I could download them via FTP etc.?
  20. Thank you all for the very kind words and, also, Rockape, for the new medal! I'm sorry @Markoff but I don't command the Enterprise any more - we gave our share away to another enthusiast in 2019 - so, if you see her around Oxford, I shan't be on her. I did end last year with some good news during the pandemic - I got the results of a 24-hour ECG I had recorded a year previously. No, they don't hurry in the NHS! The doctor described my heart as "good".
  21. Many of you will be aware that, following a cardiac arrest in October 2018, I suffered an acquired brain injury, firstly described as a stroke but, after a formal complaint about my lack of treatment, modified to a hypoxic brain injury. Basically, this means my brain was deprived of oxygen for 15 minutes causing permanent damage. I had to stand down from Admin duties as my perception of reality was different to an uninjured person's and I was prone to seeing things. I was provided with no therapy or rehab to assist me and my online games proved invaluable in measuring how badly I had been affected. I was half as good as I was pre-cardiac arrest but I thought I could improve with further practice. Sadly, this has not been the case and I am just serving as a slow-moving target to my fellow players. Like my daily Scrabble playing online, that I gave up last year, I must step away from the battlefield now and spend my time on more enjoyable and productive pursuits that are less destructive to my battered ego. This understanding has come slowly and only with the help of Headway, The Brain Injury Association of which I am now a "Friend". I would like to thank you all for your friendship and understanding as I have fought this personal battle. However, it is one I cannot win so I must go gracefully. I am not hanging up the tags, having worn them for over a decade - 11 years this month - but you will not be seeing me in the games servers much if at all. Farewell.
