Absolutely, better safe than sorry, it is fairly obvious then that the problems occur for you and previous owner with this (illegal) exhaust, don't take a genius to figure that one out, sell it on Ebay. As you know I love old British bikes, but tour on them oh no! they need a pit crew, I keep others to actually ride and play with the Brits. I don't know how much you know about engines but your standard engine is already highly 'stressed' take it beyond those parameters and you introduce increased unreliability for what might be modest gains in power. A perfect example were the qualifying engines used in formula 1, they would develop huge power but only lasted 5 laps, if that, the engine was then de-tuned to last a race (just). A touring engine would have lower compression, softer cams and run richer than it's racing counterpart, it would do 100,000 miles the racer 200. A lot of people don't realise that racing bikes are built to last say 50 miles before needing rebuilding, in the 70's we had to rebuild TZ cranks after 30 racing miles, they were destroyed. Run that machine on standard parts and settings, that is what it was designed for.
