  1. So they marked down the R7 5800x and I went for it. Figured it might be the last cpu upgrade for this MSI X470 mobo..... In 4 minutes, the time it took to swap the cpu, I went to this... from this..... Runs a bit hot under stress test, but my H115i should handle it ok, I think. t
  2. No problems here. Updated 5 machines. 2 desktops and 3 laptops.
  3. Been there... Walked that.... 1978......
  4. Flew General Powell once when I was in support of the Hurricane Andrew relief back in 1992. Busy man, but took time to briefly to talk to us, the crew, and ask how things were going. Best General we have had in a long time. RIP Sir.
  5. Forgot all about that SSD and chkdsk thing... Like KaptCrunch says, just don't do it.
  6. Loader try running it as "C:\WINDOWS\system32>chkdsk /r" It will check the entire drive for bad sectors. If you have more than 1 drive you night have to do this for all of them but probably not.
  7. Since it's a NTSF failure, you might want to run chkdsk /f from the CMD prompt to check for errors. Will take a while if it's a large drive.
  8. So went and played a bit on FT1... not good. Frame rate was jumping from 35 to 500+. Tried some adjustments but nothing worked.... Good thing is that it only took 5 minutes to roll back to Win 10. So seems that Win 11 is just a lipstick upgrade for Win 10... and not a good shade right now if you ask me.
  9. Welcome to the Jungle, George....
  10. Shoved in Win 11 (Pro version) on my AMD 2700x on a MSI x470 Gaming Carbon Pro rig and will see how it goes. When I did the beta a bit back COD4 played like crap, laggy and skipping frames. Had to uninstall the MSI Dragon program to get it to install. Still don't like the new taskbar nor the look of the Start button when opened. Also the Start button has quit working 6 or 8 times and have to restart Windows Explorer to get it to work again. Tried to use the Reg hack to return to the Win 10 Start look when opening up Start, but that was a no go. Worked in the beta but MS has killed that in the release version. Haven't done any benchmarks stuff yet but will soon as I also read about the performance drop with AMD CPU's. Using a local logon so widgets don't work unless I go with MS logon. Will test out COD4 on out FT1 server and see how that goes, but unless you really like rounded corners on things, there isn't much reason to upgrade. I don't use MS Teams, there is a cut down version of a online MS Office with it. Extremely limited control of my RTX 2070 in the display settings. My home network is still screwed as there is a master browser problem and my other systems can't see this one. So a bit more testing before I decide to roll back to win 10 or not. But all my programs seem to work.
  11. Try updating the Realtek drivers and see what happens. May have to get them from Realtek's site.
  12. Well before I start playing around with Win 11, I'm making a diskimg of my Win 10 just in case things don't work too well. The beta Win 11 didn't like COD4 but that could have been just a driver problem. Was dropping frames like I had a 500 ping back in the day of dial up.
  13. I'm 69 years old and my wife still says "Just when are you going to grow up!'
  14. Stupid is as stupid does.....
  15. Just ran the Auto-Update in the COD4X and there is a 20.5 version... Still running fine after the update. Also connected to the MW2 FT server with no problems.
  16. I don't think that works, the COD4X 1.8 that Steam pushes out isn't compatible with 1.7 servers. Remember 1.8 is a MOD. However I did run over to the COD4X Website and found a 20.0 version that I installed and ran. Works fine with out freeze tag 1 sever and connected to several others. So if you have downloaded COD4 from Steam I suggest you do one of two things.... The rollback to version 1.7..... Or download the 20.0 mod update from COD4X. So with the COD4X 20.0 installed you can join all the servers out there from 1.7 up.
  17. The latest official version, is 1.7, the 1.8 and now the 1.9 versions are CoD4X. COD4X is a MOD not from Activision. Looking at the COD4X 19.0 description found over at Gamepressure it looks like it may now support connections to 1.7 servers. However I haven't tested this. Anyone want to give it a try?
  18. Just doing the updates or in place upgrade, you must have Win 10 with a valid key installed. Gas price just went up, so let's call it $1 ... both ways... more if I fly...
  19. For $30 I'll head over with my USB stick with all the downloaded updates and install them for you.... Plus 75 cents a mile surcharge.....
  20. MS is backing off... some what, that is... MS backing down....

    Me and Win 11

I installed just the Intel 1211 driver, no crapware along with it. Tend to do that with all my drivers and such, like printers.

    Me and Win 11

Activated TPM last week so that wasn't it, still guessing it's drivers for the mobo NIC (Intel I211). But then again it's a beta. Got the wife's laptop that meets the hardware requirements that I could try it on, but she says that I'll be singing soprano if I do.
  23. So went and grabbed the last ISO for Win 11 and put it on a USB stick. The install took about 20-30 minutes as it hung once at 68% completed. I hit the Esc key and the continue option and it continued the install. After reboot and a few more install/update screens, it seemed that all went well. I really don't care for the centered taskbar, nor the way the taskbar opens and options-layout displayed. Got to do some digging to get to some common settings. The Network & Internet options are lacking or I just didn't find what I was looking for. I tried several of my installed programs and all opened and ran. I got on Teamspeak and jumped on FT1. COD4 joined with out a problem.... but.... I was lagging so bad that it was not playable. Ping was ok but there was a ton of dropped frames. I would turn 90 degrees and the first 10-15 degrees displayed ok before jumping to the 90 degree point. After leaving the game I got back on the net and did a speed test, also doing the same with my other Win 10 computer. The Win 11 system was a good 12-15% slower in the download speeds but the upload speed was the same. I'm thinking driver problems maybe, but doing some searching I found that many have had the same speed reduction, some as much as 90% or better. Also the Widgets didn't work for me, again a common problem for other people. It kept wanting me to "sign in" with my MS account but it wouldn't stick after I tried several times. So rolled back to Win 10 after playing around for about a hour, which took only 5 minutes. Jumped back on FT1 and smooth as butter, but Sally still kept shooting me. If I give this a try again I'll wait for a few more beta updates, but see no real reason or features for me to rush into Win 11. System is... MSI Carbon Gaming Pro MB R7-2700x 32GB DDR4 3000 memory HP EX920 M.2 1TB and other drives... RTX 2070
  24. You can get a free BF-1 key if you are a Amazon Prime member... How to get the key Just the basic game and only until August 4.
  25. Don't even mention the Silenced P90 that can shoot 500 yards......
