Hi Weed, sounds like my story too. All my deer were under 50yds also. Except my largest, a 7 pointer at around 65 yds. A very lucky 2nd shot at that with a slug. All were taken with a 30.30 Marlin or a Ithaca Deerslayer slug gun. Both with iron sights. I was too poor to buy a scope at the time,lol.

I shot my 1st deer with a 30-30 Marlin 170 grain nylon tip round nose of course . Great little gun dropped a nice 2 year old 6 point. Dropped in it's tracks. The 30-30 is going the right speed for up and close in the thick woods.

Went Whistler (Common Golden Eye) hunting today. I shot 2 rare ducks for these parts. One was a Barrows Golden eye the other was we think a cross between Buffle head and a Common Golden eye. The cross bread has pink feet and brown eyes with the larch white cheeks.
the Barrows Golden eye has the white cheeks up high on the beak and the short beak. The head has a blue purple color
The Common Golden eyes has a green color on the head and the smaller white cheeks. The brown headed bird is a Female Golden Eye. These birds can fly at 40 MPH and the wings make a whistling noise hence the slang name Whistlers!

Hey all...havent been around much last 3 weeks because I found a used boat i couldnt pass up....a 1999 Angler 204 center console....have been working like crazy on it...engine overhaul, lower unit, t-top, upgraded the electronics...everthing i could afford....
THEN...i took it fishing DTS, (thats down the shore for everyone NOT from Jersey) and some asshole lights off a bomb 4 blocks from where I was staying...
I had to go right to the beach and put up my smiley hippie kite....fuck terrorisim....
