The CPU is running at about 70 C and maxed at 82, both of which are normal for it. 20-25 degrees lower than when i was trying to fix it. I guess the paste helped. They really don't know what happened. Gonna go to the store tomorrow to check it out, and make sure i can't replicate any issues i was having. Hopefully I dodged a bullet this time. Awards

Sorry but how F******g stupid are they! Check http://ark.intel.com/products/33911/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-E8500-(6M-Cache-3_16-GHz-1333-MHz-FSB And look at the "TCASE 72.4°C" and are they dumb asses to kill your CPU?? 72.4 c is the MAX that CPU can handle. They better have a company insurance if that happens to me. But as in Windows, don't worry about it. The device manager will pick it up or you just have to do a manual update of the cores in device manager. Awards

Can't really prove it. plus I would have trouble arguing with a bunch of specialists when I don't really know much about this stuff. Awards

What the shop was doing is to pressure the CPU by those programs. The CPU can handle that heat for a certain time, but they did it on purpose and killed it. As a shop has noticed the heat, they could have used other coolers to prevent the kill, with what they have there in store. It is like my car is overheating and the carshop is trying to blow up my engine without taking care of the problem first. They are professionals and you came in to ask for help. A discount on a new CPU would be right or you not to pay that bill that you can expect. Awards

They were running Prime and some graphics stresser together. question about Tcase temperatures. The Tcase for my CPU is 72.4. Is that the max temp at which the CPU can operate safely when it is being stressed to 100% load or is that the max temp no matter what load the CPU is under? Awards

I wouldn't bother with Tcase much tho...individual cores temperatures is usually better, closer to reality.. And maybe I missed something, but did you try to install a better cooler, or you're still using the stock bullcrap? Awards
