No firewall and no AV cover is asking for trouble.  Guess some folks haven't heard of botnets and drive-by infections...

Heck, there are even back doors into OS X these days!

I have long rated AVG's free offering but it doesn't include some features of the paid-for product.

Both Norton and McAfee products have caused me real headaches.  Symantec had to send me three A4 pages of instructions to remove their product from my system once and that isn't the mark of a great program!  My first job when I buy a machine with Norton or McAfee stuff on it is to remove it!

snap,i use iorbit, but i am thinking of moving on myself so this thread is of massive use

Cheers to that Deejay! I am done paying the  price for the free stuff!

The pay for ( avanquest fix-it utilities) does more then just protect. A few bucks a year it takes care of all kinds of poop! all of it with a single click.

No headaches no worries....Game ON!

I run nothing and I have no problems unless i do something stupid and most AV wont stop it.. so I love my memory being free.. faster startup and other. But that is me. I have my data backed and a mirror on a inactive drive just in case all set up just ready to restore data and play.

Norton suck donkey dick. Bloated software than can be walked around. If anything use NOD32. But norton.. hahahaha guess cuz I worked in corporate environments and have seen lots of shit. But sure you are a safe suffer. I do dangerous things and I still feel safer.

My vote NOD32

MacAfee is by far the worst. If you have.. remove that shit and get something free. And I am not a fan of Trend Micro. Corporate world... sucks but Norton is the best for management reasons. But still sucks ass.

I use Microsoft SE (very little resources), and also periodically use Malwarebytes. Also have Spyware Blaster. AVG is also a good one, but is a resource hog.

I have cleaned up too many pc's that had the "great" Norton or McAfee with all the updates even. Run Malwarebtyes on a pc that had one of them on it and when MB finds the virus, Norton or McAfee will try to claim they found it a second or so later. It really is quite funny to watch the programs fight over it. Seen this many times.

Also placing all your trust in a single "catch all" program is just bad anyway. They try to get an overall, and don't truly focus on one thing or another, so they tend to miss things.

If I read right, someone uses CCleaner. CCleaner is a great cleaning tool, but it does nothing for malware, that's not it's purpose.

Yop and HXTR, you probably already have a self protecting virus. You don't need to "download" anything. They do "driveby downloads" nowdays. If you don't have A/V on your pc you have a virus or will get one.

Microsoft SE did not find a test virus I have burned to disk. AVG and AVAST did. Malware Bytes found it. WebRoot Secure found it.

Anyone should be running a router. Cheap insurance against drivebys.
