think back, way  back..

I need a way to print if possible or to at least view a printout that would normally go through dos to one of those old cranky parallel port printers. I don't have one, and don't see getting one anytime soon. I do have numerous USB printers on a network or directly connected. I am using D-Fend Reloaded to run this program I need to print from.

I am in no way a savvy dos user, I can usually stagger and stumble around till I get where I want to be.

As far as writing commands, yeah right, not me.

any ideas would be great, just type slow so I can keep up. LOL.

not yet, I'm about to try another version of d-fender, some others have been modded to add some sort of printer capabilities. Some say it works, and others say it doesn't.

Print to file would be great, if I could do that even.

Thanks Nobody, I'm gonna keep trying.

you can capture LPT1 to one of your local or network printers. Then the DOS output will go to printer. You can also have LPT1 set to a file. I will have to look at that one for best option.

The properties of the printer is where you can change what port it uses. PM me if you need help. I can take a look at it for you. Done in past many times but not with your dos emulator. Wont make a defference.. .or shouldn't.

Hxtr is correct. However I don't understand the question. You need to print out or view a printout??? If its the latter surely pick up the paper it printed out on and read it! See why I don't understand?

I think what is going on Cavey is he has this old dos program... database or something close to it that contains data he needs out of the program for review just needs it out of the dos program.

I was reading about his emulator and it looks like it does have printer support.

now if a print screen option would work that would be easy.. capture a picture of the data and port to pdf, jpg, other.

Then he can take that and review his data.

But if the dos emulator is aware of his local LPT on his windows I would think it will work.

But an option is available........

Well the easiest way would be to print screen it.  Then print out the image file it creates.  If using windows vista or 7, click on start, and type in the search window "snipping tool".  Open that and capture the screen.  Save it as a jpg, and then open the jpg in a normal picture editing software, and print as normal.  The quality will be perfect.

Otherwise if on older OS, then download Gadwin printscreen (http://www.gadwin.com/download/).  We use that at work on our Citrix servers.

the stuff I'm trying to see can only been seen from the print out itself. the program doesn't display all information on screen, it only gives an option to print it out.

I love stuff like this and wait to read the solution! Smile

Sounds like there's someone else who knows how to write a DOS batch file! Laughing

Bring back the old days when this stuff was really fun!
