Its the time of year when traditions are an important part of most peoples lives and I was just wandering what kinds of things do you do to celebrate Easter of a similar holiday at this time of year. I know a lot of people go to church this one day out of the year. Children love to hunt Easter eggs. I have heard of families have a traditional dinner of baked glazed ham and deviled eggs. I would love to learn about things you do to remember this season!

Hi Dean!

Great question! We are a traditional southern family so Easter always consists of church and eating. The church is packed on Easter because so many only go that one time a year. We try to attend regularly all year round. I miss the days of dressing two little girls up in pretty dresses and new shoes. Our church is a bit more modern and only a few people still get really dressed up. Since our girls are grown now, there's no more egg hunting for our family. :no

We dye eggs every year and have a blast doing it. Bama is the egg dying master!!! He's so creative! We like to be non-traditional when it comes to egg dyeing and we make our eggs look like other things. (basketballs, zombies, flowers, mosaics, Van Gogh's Starry Night, etc.)

We usually meet up with family after church and have a big meal. Ham is a staple on Easter Sunday or Resurrection Sunday as I like to refer to it. We have traditional southern style macaroni and cheese along with vegetables, cooked southern style of course, and LOTS of iced sweet tea. Dyed eggs make for colorful egg salad and deviled eggs. Since strawberries are in season, I usually make strawberry shortcake and we have a couple other desserts too. A nap typically follows the big meal. ;)

We rarely go to church, but with my son just turning 2, I'm excited about hiding the eggs, and recording my son and wife hunting for them. This will be followed by a nice roast dinner with my wife's parents.

Just a special meal with the family, these days. With our son grown up and a fitness fanatic, we no longer buy chocolate eggs.

When we grew up .. we used to "roll" eggs down a hill ,.... we'd hard boil them and then paint them up and then go to a hill nearby and roll them down it ... can't for the life of me remember what the point of that was .. though a quick google gave me this ( and I come from Lancashire )

In the United Kingdom the tradition of rolling decorated eggs down grassy hills goes back hundreds of years and is known as "pace-egging", from the Old English Pasch meaning Pesach or Passover. In Lancashire there are annual egg rolling competitions at Avenham Park in Preston and at Holcome Hill near Ramsbottom. There is an old Lancashire legend that says the broken eggshells should be carefully crushed afterwards or they will be stolen and used as boats by witches.

I have to say .. I love Bill Hicks take on it

"I was over in Australia during easter, which was intersting. Interesting to note they celebrate Easter the same way we do; commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus by telling our children a giant bunny rabbit, left chocolate eggs in the night.

Now, I wonder why we’re fucked up as a race, anybody? Anybody got any clues out there?

Where do you get this shit from you know? Why those two things you know? Why not ‘Goldfish left Lincoln Logs in your sock drawer’ you know? As long as we’re making shit up, go hog wild you know. At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on it's back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous conotation to it.

'Mummy, I woke today and there was a Lincoln Log in me sock drawer!'.

'That's the story of Jesus'.

Who comes up with this shit?! I’ve read the Bible. I can’t find the words ‘bunny’ or ‘chocolate’ anywhere in that fucking book".

LOL Good point Jud1. We never taught our kids about the Easter Bunny or any other imaginary figure. We didn't want to lie to them. We still buy them chocolate bunnies though. :w00t:

My folks do the same thing for my kids. Put change and little bits of chocolate in the plastic eggs. Then we are having turkey and ham dinner.
