I lost my OS HDD last night with no warning. It's a Crucial RealSSD C300 2.5 with 0006 Firmware.

Does anyone know if there is any way to recover a SSD with currupt firmware?

I've been reading that the 0006 firmware is the cause of many bricked Crucial C300 SSD drives. They have put out Rev.0007 to fix the problem but I had no idea that I was suppossed to upgrade the Firmware. This SSD only had a 45 day Warrenty and it costed me quite a few clams and headaches.

I turned the PC off and turned it on and the SSD was no longer posting in Bios.I've taken it out and tried it in the other PC but it's not showing up in the Bios.

I've read that it MAY be possible to hook it up Via Sata to USB converter and update the firmware.I found a converter on Ebay for $5.95 shipped.Has anyone else had similar problems with an SSD drive?

When this new stuff dies it sure doesn't fuck around.

sorry for your pain

Unlike hard disk drives, solid state storage devices have no moving parts making data recovery remortgage the home to get all data off SSD to costly

if thats the route you want to take call around before doing anything with SSD

Note: to keep your important data save on a flash drive and burn a hard copy, wkly monthy or yrly what ever fancy you

Release Date: 04/26/2011

Change Log:

  • Improved product reliability.
  • Resolved performance anomaly which resulted in brief, intermittent pause in drive response time for some users.

Note: This is firmware from Revision 0006 to Revision 0007. It will not work for updating between any other versions. If your drive has Revision 0001 firmware, then you MUST first perform the intermediate step of updating to Revision 0002. If your drive has Revision 0002 firmware, then you MUST first perform the intermediate step of updating to Revision 0006. other words update from your 0002 version on to .0007 in 2 steps .ooo6 then ooo7

the firmware fact sheet (.pdf) over there is ass backwards for the novice is left out in the cold of first opertion

is BACK-UP the DATA before any firmware updates.

what mode is the motherborad set to IDE or AHCI ?

also firmware updates must be done in DOS not windows enviroment

best thing to do is get a dos booting system in IDE mode to reconize SSD

and run firmware update again since you have nothing to loose

It's in IDE mode

If I can get it to post in Linux I'll be able to update it to 0007.I can't even get past the initial HDD check to show up in Bios.If I could disable the HDD check I think I could get it working again.A Sata to USB converter should work as it will only scan the USB controller at system start up.

I've seen a couple ppl have luck with Hot HDD Disconect.Disconnect the power from the SSD while Bios scans for the Hdd.It should show up in Bios but won't be able to access it until it's in my Linux enviroment.

I'm going to order the converter. It's worth the $5 just for piece of mind.

For those who are concerned about recovering data from a failed drive, the best and least expensive solution is to ALWAYS keep a current backup of EVERYTHING on the internal drive to an external drive, burn disks or cloud. Don’t even try to recover the data on the failed drive – just rebuild a new drive from the backup.

To update an SSD Firmware you must have it set as the Primary drive on the 1st or #0 sata connector from what I've been reading.

1 thing for sure that's the last thing I buy made by Crucial. In the last year I've had to RMA 3 sets of Crucial Balistics memory, bricked 2 Crucial thumb drives and now a $230 SSD drive.

The only Warrenty that they seem to care about Honoring is they're memory but the Quality just isn't there any more.

Huh I was just reccommended by Micro center to buy the SSD by Crucial, they have had alot of problems and returns with Other brands.

dID SOME cHECKING, AND THE m4 cRUCIAL DRIVE SEEMS ROCK SOLID. Many other models had trouble..lots of older ssd did crash.. See review

Sometimes one just gets unlucky, and it may be me....with my Crucial drive.... I know one thing, the only lcd or LED tv I will buy is Samsung, Sony..having sound problems, off name brands, last 2 years.. Insignia,, crap.

The Intel 520 series SSD drives seem to be alot faster and they have a nice 5 year Warranty and MTBF is 1,200,000 hours. That's 50,000 days or 136.895 years of constant 24/7 power up.

I picked up a 240gig during Neweggs black friday sale for $222.95.It's alot faster than the Crucial SSD and with the Intel Control Panel program I can keep the drive optimized and upgrade firmware if need be.I'm really impressed with this SSD so far.
