It has more to do with skill and low ping. The only thing a good computer can do is make the gaming experiece better for you. Comfortable keyboard, mouse, big monitor and high-end graphics card all improve how you experiece the game, but can't improve your score.

i agree... LOM... ping is everything... and the type of package you have from your isp provider... the higher the bandwidth the better the response time. I get that ALL the time... it gets frustrating... i start shooting someone in the back... he turns around and kills me... i HATE when that happens.. but ya... computer is important in that it can run the game... after that it's all about what LOM said

It helps with the gamers experience and it help a little with performance. The faster your pc can process the information it recieves and send it back out helps but for mili seconds. Most has to do with location to your isp and it trunks and how many isp you have to go through to get to that server which can be several sometimes. That will effect your connection speed and what cause lag

ping is most important, but at the same time, you need a fair FPS too. too low and your missing stuff.

people will argue that the machine doesn't make the player, but a low end machine WILL HINDER a player.

when I first started gaming back in the COD1 days, I could only avareage about 30 FPS, I played a lot, for a long time like that, and never could make it very high on list for most kills ( didn't play FT back then) I built a new system one Christmas, and averaged well over 100 FPS with it, it was twice the speed-ram-and graphics of the previous one.

Within the first 2 or three rounds on the new machine I was in the top 5 players from then on out. But I also played about 7 hours a day. I worked 5am to 1pm, got home and played till about 9pm at night, nearly every night.

I wonder what it would be like to play google or shooter or jumper or many of the other outstanding European players we have if they had low pings. I do think ping makes a huge difference in COD2. I am not as sure about COD4.

For once I agree with old_man. All true. A better video card will let you play with more eye-candy and world-immersion, and in my opinion is the most important item in regards to your hardware if you intend to do any upgrades. Also playing without distractions (smart-phone, laptop, tablet etc.) is huge. When I'm distracted, my kill-to-death ratio plummets. When I am focused solely on the game, good things happen (to me).

If you take Little Old Man, Simplemod, and Baldie's answers and roll them all up into one you have the perfect answer to your question... :) :)
