And while I have been off work this last week, I have had the a ton of shocks walking around the house in house shoes and fleece pants. although it does sound like a static issues if touching all that other stuff sets it off too.

I find that in the winter months, rolling your chair around on one of those suckers can generate one hell of a static charge, enough to mess up a computer. Some of them come with a ground wire attached that you can attach to the screw of a power outlet. If that's what you have I would suggest taking out the floor protector until the weather warms up. I know years ago I fried my motherboard that way.. when changing Ram I touched the case and bang big spark then nothing worked after that Awards
