I dunno... I can see why the cops do it though... they guy is just asking for trouble.   Like seriously? Who hikes down the road with what appears to be an assault riffle? Of course the cops are going to investigate!?! Not to mention the fact that the guy was a loud jerk to the officers. Give them some respect and they might think about reciprocating it. Also he should have remained calm. When he gets agitated the cops get even more aggressive.

Edit: I'm not saying the cop was in the right in the least...

Seem extreme to both sides... Im not sure why anyone takes an assault weapon for a hike, and can quote statisitcs off hand... Almost seems staged.  Plus, why didnt the officer just ask questions first, as seen in other video's. This all could have been handled alot better by both of them.

do we want the police to act on suspicious persons to avoid crimes or do we want them to wait till the crime is done........

My gut feeling, since we don't have video of the whole incident, is that the officer's initial contact was not one of respect and thus set the tone for the whole situation.   Some people are naturally confrontational and don't have much tact (much like myself) and the result is much like we witnessed in this video.  Most officers must be trained to de-escalate, although some people come by it naturally.

I'm surprised this took place in Texas.  I thought they had two guns behind every blade of grass there and seeing someone openly carrying would be no big deal.

I was recently pulled over and the first thing out of my mouth when the officer approached was "I have a loaded pistol laying next to me on my right side."  He simply told me to keep my hands on the wheel and not to make any sudden movements.  He ran me through and let me go.  He should have secured my pistol and ran it through NCIC (he was rookie still on FTO).  Most cops prefer to check that the weapon hasn't been reported stolen and to return the weapon unloaded.

Bottom line:  Openly carrying a firearm is not a crime (in most states), but at least be polite and respectful if you choose to carry.
