Just checking in....Trying to find another computer tech to figure out what is wrong with my back up comp. Turned it on and it popped.....Nada after that....not sure if something on the motherrboard went or power supply.....

You said this your backup pc? If so you could test the power supply on you main! If it's not that and there is no power at all then you have a task ahead of you. You could assume it's the motherboard but if you have to replace things I always start with the least expensive!

Get a Power supply tester if you don't have one, About $30 US & worth having. If it isn't the PSU you probably blew a Capacitor on the motherboard.

Both above are correct. Get a voltage meter and check your power supply for 5 and 12 volts DC. Power supply would be cheapest and easiest to replace so let's hope it's not a mother board...

inspect that motherboard first.look at every capacitor.
