  1. Actually, now we know the origin of the name, I think this video is more appropriate...
  2. @@deerejon if you want to play with your little Thomas behind closed doors, I'm sure no one will find fault with that...
  3. Congratulations on all that love and mutual patience!
  4. Sorry I posted the news about the "decoration" of an unconscious patient in Jokes. I hope this doesn't happen to you! Maybe you'd look great with a fake moustache? Guess it is keyhole surgery so hope you heal well and feel much better afterwards.
  5. If you have undergone surgery in the USA recently, perhaps you ought to check social media... "What a moust-ache! Woman wakes from surgery to find doctors put moustache and teardrop stickers on her faceA woman is suing a California hospital after she woke up from an operation to find a doctor had put a fake moustache and teardrop stickers on her face. Veronica Valdez, 36, was in Torrance Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles for a surgical procedure on her finger, but found the multi-coloured stickers on her face when she came round. While she was unconscious, her anaesthetist Dr Patrick Yang had cut out and coloured the stickers before putting them in humourous positions on her face, while nurse assistant Patricia Gomez took the photograph." 6. Sustained strategic bombing of the UK by Nazi Germany occurred between 7 September 1940 and 21 May 1941. Over a period of 267 days, London was attacked 71 times. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Blitz On 7 December 1941, the USA was attacked by the Japanese Imperial Navy at Pearl Harbor. The following day, the USA declared war on Japan. On 11 December 1941, the Axis powers of Italy and Germany declared war on the USA which was reciprocated the same day. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attack_on_Pearl_Harbor There was, therefore, in the context of military intervention, no involvement by the USA in the UK or elsewhere during The Blitz. (NB: I am talking about the country and its government not the brave volunteers who came to the UK/ Canada and signed up to fly with the RAF/RCAF in the Eagle Squadrons: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eagle_Squadrons) Lend-lease, a programme to send materiel to the UK and other Allied powers was signed into US law on 11 March 1941 (so a little over two months before massive air attacks on the UK ceased), nine months before military involvement of the USA in World War 2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lend-Lease You may wish to note these historical facts before a certain person refers to the London Blitz in the coming days in an effort to exemplify when military intervention is justified...

  8. "Italian foodies have invented a way for beer lovers to enjoy their favourite drink for breakfast - without the risk of being forced to attend those troublesome Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Chocolatier Napoleone and brewery Alta Quota, both based in the central Italian province of Rieti, have joined forces to create the world's first spreadable beer, which they've called Birra Spalmabile. The ale-flavoured, jelly-like substance comes in two flavours, using either Omid dark ale or Greta blonde ale. According to Italy Magazine, "one is delicate, while the other has a more intense aroma and stronger taste"." 9. Dean, I am sorry to learn of your further health problems but urge you not to go into meltdown over this. It doesn't sound like the doctor has done a very good job counseling you and explaining what this means! Whilst I wouldn't say she doesn't know what she is talking about, the way this news has been delivered has induced fear into you that may not be appropriate to the circumstances. I know from personal experience how medics can scare the **** out of people - I was told by an optometrist that I showed signs of glaucoma and needed urgent attention or I could go blind. After a couple of anxious months, I was seen by an eye specialist who declared my eyes normal and free of any such signs! I also know, through personal experience, how people suffering anxiety and depression can catastrophise any problem. The worst case scenario is going to happen despite it being a remote possibility or highly improbable! So, stay calm, old fella - doing so will help the blood pressure issue! I appreciate the health care system where you are is not as accessible as it is in other countries so I'd suggest you do your own research via reputable organisations and forums. Coincidentally, an old friend of mine recently announced he was going for a health check as he'd been told he had kidney disease...18 years ago! You'll continue to be in my thoughts and prayers, my friend, but not in a way that asks the "Boss" not to recall you as that scenario seems a long way off. Be calm, be cool and be happy. 11. The old man and Satan A few minutes before the church services started, the congregation were sitting in their pews and talking. Suddenly, Satan appeared at the front of the church. Everyone started screaming and running for the entrance, trampling each other in a frantic effort to get away from evil incarnate. Soon the church was empty except for one elderly gentleman who sat calmly in his pew without moving, seemingly oblivious to the fact that God's ultimate enemy was in his presence.. So Satan walked up to the man and said, 'Do you know who I am?' The man replied, 'Yep, sure do.' 'Aren't you afraid of me?' Satan asked. 'Nope, sure ain't.' said the man. 'Don't you realize I can kill you with one word?' asked Satan. 'Don't doubt it for a minute', returned the old man, in an even tone. 'Did you know that I can cause you profound, horrifying AGONY for all eternity?' persisted Satan. 'Yep,' was the calm reply. 'And you are still not afraid?' asked Satan. ' Nope,' said the old man More than a little perturbed, Satan asked, 'Why aren't you afraid of me?' The man calmly replied, 'Been married to your sister for 48 years!

  13. I thought I was so clever to have composed: "Nothing worth doing was ever easy". Then I Googled it and found a superior intellect had expressed it better... “Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well.” Theodore RooseveltOne of my favourites was penned by Khalidasa: Look to this day: For it is life, the very life of life. In its brief course Lie all the verities and realities of your existence. The bliss of growth, The glory of action, The splendour of achievement Are but experiences of time. For yesterday is but a dream And tomorrow is only a vision; And today well-lived, makes Yesterday a dream of happiness And every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well therefore to this day; Such is the salutation to the ever-new dawn! The most important one is this: “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies.” Jesus Christ (John 11:25)
  14. Congratulations on your mutual patience. I'm at the 27-year mark and can only reflect that, if I had killed someone, I would now be out on parole. Don't become attached to your hair - it will disappear. Don't become attached to your hair colour - it will go grey/white. You may be rendered partially deaf (in one ear at least). Never expect logic from a woman... If you think menstruation is challenging, wait till the menopause... Oh boy, that's a treat that lasts much longer than a week! Which wise sage said, "Marriage isn't a word - it's a sentence"?! I thank the Lord Almighty for beer...

  20. A great collection of old photos, Johnny. It is a tragedy that, once again, there are many thousands of homeless in the USA, living in tent cities and homelessness is on the rise in the UK also.
