I'm not sure how bad your issues are, but maybe there are a few things you could adjust to try and help? Not sure if you have tried playing with the contrast/brightness settings on your monitor? That can make a difference. Not sure how new/old your monitor is either, as the newer ones can be a lot better than models from 5-10 years ago.
Also, in cod4 as an example, you can use the command /r_gamma 1 (number between 0.5 and 3) to adjust brightness quickly between maps. Some maps play much better around 1 (generally stock maps), average for me is around 1.6, and some need over 2. This will probably depend on your own monitor settings though.
