renaming a boat is considered bad luck

so ehmm  when you do the purging,  i'll help  ( with the champagne that is ) 🙂

    Well I'll take my chances.

It's currently called "Buzzed Gobbler" which is just plain stupid.  But I am sure it had special meaning to the current owners LOL

@SGTSmeg Do have to get pilot lessons in USA to ride this big???

in Canada over 15meters 45  feet you need to have a navigator/pilot license .

No captains license required unless you are chartering for money and you are under certain tonnage.

Some insurance companies will require captains sign-off, especially if you are jumping into a much larger vessel (which we are) or are first time boaters jumping into a large vessel.

I have received three quotes from insurance companies and none are requiring captains training to move up, however, the captain that has been helping with our sea trials on the past two boats is a close friend and will gladly ride along and provide guidance if necessary.  My wife and I have been boating since the early 1980's.  We are well versed in navigating the river (and beyond), it will just help with some of the onboard systems and how they integrate with each other as much as anything.

Unless you tell him to? Oil samples are good though and should show any problems in engines, but personally I would have borescoped before starting any engine if I suspected water damage. Thermal imaging is good (especially for electrics on larger vessels) and should show defective combustion, direct drive would be my preferred choice too, but watch those seals.

Resonance testing is a good quick check, but in my humble opinion does not supercede the MK 1 eyeball and a thorough crawl around.

Well we weren't aware of any water issues with the engine until after we had been underway on our sea trial.

Virtually every nook and cranny (short of drilling holes) was explored on this vessel.  Every stringer within the bilge and sumps were resonance checked and moisture tested.

The thermal imaging camera was also used on the inside and outside of the hull to check for temperature inconsistencies which would have identified any voids in the hull core.

This guys is SAMS@ AMS@ certified and a Certified Level III Thermographer.  He knows his shit  🙂

Mine is called the "LUNA SEA"

I was gonna go with "Second Time Around"

I also tossed around "Knot Working"

Hope it all works out well, boats are way fun....I keep mine in NY Harbor right near the Statue of Liberty....

    Stripers.jpg

NICE Stripers!  I can't wait to hit the Chesapeake Bay and hunt for these!

My wife gotta kick out of the name "Deez Knots"  LOL

You will just have to believe me but I know a lot about boats

1/. I can't picture what you mean about stbd engine leaking on both manifolds?? and possibly getting back into the engine. BIG RED FLAG, as boats stand for ages any ingress of water into the engines can cause catastrophic and expensive damage (rust), you need the engine internals examined (borescope minimum) surveyor should have known this fact well.

2/. ANY signs of osmosis in a fibreglass vessel should warrant further investigations, did he crawl through internally and test??? another Red Flag, if it's in one part it may be starting in others, repair costs are horrendous

3/. Sounds right but carefully examine any stern seals, they are degraded with vibration, is she Z drive?

    4/. OK

Don't want to scare you, just want you to get good value buddy

The surveyor does a resonance sound test on the entire hull, top to bottom.  He also puts a moisture meter all over the hull to check for moisture in the core of the hull.  Leakage around hatches is very common.  They repair it by pulling the hatch out, drilling holes in the affected areas.  They use heaters to dry out the fibreglass and inject resin into the core where the delamination has occurred.  Once that is set and solid (and it is much stronger than the original wood core) they seal it all up, reset the hatch and call it a day.  It will last the lifetime of the boat.

The engines are 7.4L 454 cubic inch V-8 gasoline engines.  Hence there are two exhaust manifolds per engine (one on each side).  The surveyor uses a thermal imaging camera on the engine, manifolds, heat exchangers to ensure that things are properly cooling and there are no signs of cracks.  The water leaks were found during a visual inspection.  They connect OBD diags to the engines and check compression.  Other than that no surveyor will go much further than that other than to take oil samples from the engines, transmissions and the generator.  They will be sent out to labs for analysis to see what contaminants are in the oil (i.e. coolant, water, particulate, etc).

These engines are direct drive shaft engines as opposed to V-drives, Z-drives or stern drives.

None of this scares me.  It's all fixable.  Just not on my dime.

  6. Well we had the on shore and on water survey and sea trial over the weekend.

    A few things were found, some somewhat significant, some minor.  The things we found of concern;

1).  Starboard engine is leaking water on both exhaust manifolds where the spacer to the riser meets.  Could just need a gasket, but who knows.  With water leaking out, it's likely leaking into the engine.  Customer will have to fix this (whether its as simple as gaskets or entire engine) before I would accept the deal.

2).  The starboard deck hatch on top of the front has some moisture and delamination in the fiberglass.  Has to be fixed on the sellers dime.

3).  The port propeller has a couple of nice dings in it.  Its causing a slight vibration underway, but a prop recondition will take care of that.

4).  The generator is in need of a capacitor as it's not putting out enough voltage.  That will be fixed this week by the seller.

The surveyor was really impressed with the condition of this boat.  Other than the delamination near the one hatch on the deck, he said this thing is a tank and in amazing shape for 23 years old.

So we will see how the seller responds to the starboard engine issues and the hatch delamination.    He either fixes them or we walk away from it.

Who is more stupid? The tiktok idiot that pulled a bad prank and got shot? Or the trigger happy idiot now going to prison?

Agree.  The whole situation is bad.  I also think you're making a big assumption about going to prison.  We haven't seen the details of the video.  This person may have legitimately thought he was in danger and was protecting himself.  Knowing this punks history and his blatant disregard for rules and law enforcement, I'd have a very hard time convicting the shooter.

But in this day and age, I know I would NEVER pull up on someone I did not know and prey upon them like this punk does.

He is damn fortunate his luck didn't run out, yet he promises to keep this crap up.  He will run out of luck eventually.

Some people don't learn from their mistakes.  🙂

My dad used to make this for years. He made hundreds of pounds of it and GIFTED it to everyone he Metin his life. Doctors, neighbours, clerks, tellers, just anyone and everyone. He told me  couple of weeks ago he had a craving so I had to oblige.

I want to share this delicious recipe as it’s so simple to make. Please be WARNED this syrup will become EXTREMELY HOT! Use oven mitts when handling the bowl. This recipe or versions off can be found all over the internet and YouTube.

I’ll add a YouTube video of my own, sorry it maybe a little unprofessional.

    Microwave Peanut brittle

    Ingredients:

    1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup corn syrup we use golden syrup but the white clear will work as well.

1 3/4 to 2 cups of peanuts of your choice. We use salted blanched peanuts. This works very well with salted mixed nuts as well.

    1 teaspoon butter

    1 teaspoon baking SODA

    1 teaspoon of vanilla

It is very important to understand your microwave. The strength/wattage will determine your cooking time. My microwave is 1200 watts. You will need to adjust the cook times to accommodate your microwave.

Prepare all measured ingredients before hand and grease a cookie sheet with butter or oil of your choice. It helps to butter the mixing spoon each time  before mixing

Combine the sugar and corn syrup in a deep microwave dish as the mixture will bubble up. Cook for 3 minutes on high.

Using oven mitts remove HOT Dish add and stir in peanuts. Place a in microwave cook for another 3 minutes.

Using oven mitts remove HOT dish add the vanilla and butter, stir in microwave cook another 2 minutes.

Using oven mitts remove HOT dish add the baking SODA stir in and mix fast the mixture will foam and almost turn white.

QUICKLY poor the HOT mixture on the greased cookie sheet and flatten as best as you can the mixture will harden quickly so you must work fast.

    HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!

    Wayne

True. Without details we cant really make any kind of reasonable judgement about the event in question. The video itself would likely answer a great many questions but its in the hands of the cops.

That said, living in a society where you cant pull a stupid and foolish prank without fear of being shot to death is pretty bad. Back in the day, an idiot like this might simply get his ass kicked but not shot. Not that we can do anything about it anymore. Too far gone.

Absolutely agree @Sammy.  It's really sad where we have come.  That said, it was just a matter of time until this kid ran into someone that wasn't going to have it....

As my mother always said, you can't fix stupid.  And this kid is stupid saying that he will continue doing this. LOL

  10. 2 hours ago, Sammy said:

Is it his fault for doing it? Or is it our fault for constantly watching him do it so he does more? Cheer on and applaud the court fool, he will continue playing the fool.

That said, it doesnt make it ok to shoot the fool.

No question.  No idea what the prank involved.   Perhaps the shooter feared for his life.  Dunno...

  11. So this dipshit punk Tanner Cook lives near me and decides to do one of his prank videos on a guy he didn't know in the food court at the mall less than 5 minutes from my house.

The guy he was pranking didn't think too kindly of his antics and shot this a-hole in the stomach.  My fire crew guys get dispatched to find this punk laid out on the ground in front of the Cheesecake factory where he had run to from inside the mall.

He promises to continue doing this crap....and I suspect he will die from lead poisoning at some point.

What a total POS....there is nothing...absolutely NOTHING funny about this asshole.

too accurate for a name: 1MPG

When are we taking her out SMEG?

It'll be sometime this summer.  We still have to schedule the sea trial, then the survey.  Assuming all goes well and there are no significant issues, then we will put it on land and have the bottom paint done and get her buffed out between April 29 - May 13.  We'll want some time behind the wheel and get used to it before we decide to bring people on board.
