  1. I'm on my second pair of Sennheiser headsets. The first was absolutely awesome, except for the in-line volume control which was a little cheap and became kind of weird after I accidentally spilled some water on it. Never liked having that little blob in the cord anyway. Too easy to accidentally snag when moving around. Be wary of those in-line controls. My current headset is the Sennheiser PC 360. Totally awesome. Volume control on the ear cup and the mic mutes when you fold it up over your head. Audio quality, although only stereo, is totally amazing! And comfortable enough to wear all day and listen to music. I wear reading glasses occasionally and they are not a problem with this headset at all. One thing about this head set is that I paid $180 and they are currently about $215. Might want to wait and see if they are lower in a few weeks or something. Not sure if Amazon has a price watch function. They should. .
  2. With most of these cards ingesting air through a fan on the front of the card, I would think it's the bottom two cards that get screwed. That said, the mfrs of these cards have probably provided enough ventilation through the edges of the card to avoid heat exhaustion. ALSO, think about it this way: In a 3-way SLI config, and doing the same job that the typical PC with only one of them bad-boys installed would be doing, each of those 3 cards is performing only 1/3 the work. Each card is running significantly cooler than a solo card would. Of course it's not quite that simple. There's overhead power that's not directly associated with graphics processing and, in adding 2 extra cards, you're probably maxing everything out so that, with some games that can make use of it all, you going where no one card could ever hope to go. So maybe each card is running half as hard instead of 1/3 as hard. Still, that's quite a bit less work (heat) per card than one card would be forced to put out.
  3. Just saw this thread, so I'm late to this support gathering. Not sure if we've every gamed together, but as a fellow brother in the clan, I wish you a speedy and total recovery.
  4. Hmm. Don't know why it happened, or how your drives are physically cabled up and configured, but I'd have to say one (or both) of two things is going on. First might be a BIOS reset, which would likely reset your HD device boot order. The other would be a drive letter reassignment in Windows (click Start Orb, right-click Computer, click Manage, then under Storage, click on Disk Management and finally right click on any partition and click "Change Drive Letter and Paths.") Since you added hardware, I'd first check the BIOS. Adding a new graphics card typically doesn't trigger a BIOS reset, but who knows?
  5. WOW! I dropped a full 10 points!
  6. You're an apparition to us all.
  7. Gotta love the 3-way SLI pic in the photo gallery. That's 6 power supply connections and 3 double slots, effectively leaving no room in the system for anything else. Good thing that most mobos have all the support stuff like audio, networking, and all other interfaces built in. Undoubtedly you're going to overclock the CPU, too, so the power supply in that puppy's gonna be a big one. Mr. Fusion Home Nuclear Power Plant sold separately.
  8. Give a guy (cause you know it wasn't a woman) too much time and a new technology and he'll think up a way to get a penis and vagina visual into it. One track minds. x'cuse me, i have a forum to go visit.
  9. OMG, there's some funny shit right there!
  10. COD5: C:\Users\<your windows login name here>\AppData\Local\Activision\CoDWaW\players\profiles\<your COD player name here> COD4: C:\Users\<your windows login name here>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles\<your COD player name here> You could either just copy your specific user stuff by backing up the path right out to the end, OR (recommended) just copy the entire Activision folder (through the yellow path above) to make sure you get any global game settings. I would: Backup the Activision folder and all subfolders (yellow path above.) Do your upgrades and fresh Windows install Install the COD games Backup the default Activision data folders by renaming them to "Activision Save" Restore the Activision folders backed up in step 1. Get in the game and verify that all is normal and as it was before. IF NOT: selectively restore files from the "Activision Save" folder to see if I could correct the problem. WORST CASE: Restore the "Activision Save" folder and then just restore the specific player profile folder (yellow+white path above.) I would expect you're done and all is well at step 6.
  11. Assuming no other recent changes to the system, and given the specs on the video card, it looks likely you've not been messing with it, I would agree that overheating is a strong candidate and a good cleaning is in order. A couple of utilities to help you determine if temperature is the problem, and where the temperature is going out of range: CPUID Hardware Monitor: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html Real Temp: http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/ Note that your hardware has to support temperature monitoring applications, but there's no harm in trying to use them. Also, a degraded power supply could be the culprit. If you're still experiencing problems after a thorough cleaning and if temperatures seem within acceptable range, it's most likely going to be your power supply. Stranger things could be candidates, but given the symptoms as you've laid them out. I think we're on the right track here.
  12. They do better in space than on their own roads.
  13. You might want to check your hosts file to see if it's been compromised. The hosts file can be found in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ The stock version of the file reads as follows. Change your to match this if there's something else in there. Note that you may have a security program that has rewritten this file, although that's not always such a good move. There are better ways of dealing with blocking and redirecting web access. # Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself. # 127.0.0.1 localhost # ::1 localhost 127.0.0.1 localhost
  14. Welcome! Let's Party!
  15. I'll take two.
  16. Dude, that's sick - way to go!
  17. I ran this while packing for my trip. Here's my results on the balls-to-the-walls setting (except stereoscopic because I don't have a monitor that does that anyway. Card does, monitor doesn't.)
  18. Johnny - Here's that screenshot utility I mentioned. The download for the desktop version of the program (there are browser extensions, too, but I just use the desktop version) is at the top of the screen. http://app.prntscr.com/
  19. Interesting that our scores are different. Our specs are almost identical, right down to the 4.2GHz overclock on the CPU. I don't know what kind of motherboard you have, or if your memory has the same timing as mine, but those are really the only major differences I could think would account for the difference. [edit] Looks like you're one driver version behind, too. That could account for it.
  20. Here's mine, but it's an NVIDIA 660Ti, so kind of apples to oranges. BEAUTIFUL benchmark, btw.
  21. LOL. Just in time for V-Day.
  22. Everyone says Win8 was made for touch screens, but that is only partially true. Yes, it has elements that clearly target touch screen and handheld devices, but its Desktop is as fully functional as Win7 - IF you take into account (or maybe discount) the fact that the Start Orb has been replaced by the Start Screen. There's already one paid ($5) and one Free app that gives you a Start Orb back and boots you straight into the desktop, so even the Start Screen can effectively be dismissed on a desktop computer. As for gaming, I suspect we will see refinements that will correct any deficiencies in that area. Win8 is built on Win7, so things might need to be cleaned up a bit to brush off the remodeling dust and let the thing shine better. I will admit, they have quite a cleanup ahead, though...
  23. Holy Fuck! (that's Ho Lee Fuk with an American accent.)
  24. I have been pretty outspoken in defense of Windows 8, and I know that makes some of you scratch your heads. Hopefully not your butts, but I digress.... All the criticism of Win8 has not been lost on me, and I do believe Microsoft has quite a road ahead as it adapts Win8 (or maybe Win9) to correct some of the widespread, and valid negativity it has attracted. To that end, I thought I would mention this article as a solid read on what has gone obviously wrong with Win8. It is presented in a very factual manner and backed by serious usability concepts and studies. http://www.nngroup.com/articles/windows-8-disappointing-usability/
  25. I'm such an Idiot that I kept calling him "Ugo." Apparently anything past the first 3 characters is just a blur to me.
