  2. Reddit user braderz_12 posted the attached screenshot which were supposedly on the CoD profiles login page before they were taken down. Appears to be the first screens of the game....can't see much, but it's something.

I doub't we'll end up going back to dedicated servers unfortunately, but we'll have to see if going back to their roots is just at the superficial level of game era instead of overall gameplay.

    Hey guys,

This weeks development update is focused on the new and improved animations of the game.

    Third Person Animation Updates

The most commonly heard feedback we’ve received from our pre-alpha gameplay footage and playtests at events was that third person animations seemed a bit ‘janky’ which we totally agreed with. This is something that we’d already foreseen and had on the development pipeline for a while, it’s just not something we’d not been able to get in before the gameplay reveal due to the large nature of the task!

However! Today we can show you a short clip of the new work in progress animations to help smooth out Battalion 1944’s gameplay. Strafing from left to right and back will now blend animation states together smoothly, with things such as feet adjusting themselves to balance the player character in a realistic manner regardless of a Battalion player's erratic input!

You can see this in action in the short clip below:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WfRaHWZ4ho

These animations are still work in progress but we thought it’d be cool for you guys to see the direction we’re headed towards with Battalion’s updated animations in the near future.

If you’re a reddit user, make sure to subscribe to the /r/Battalion1944 subreddit. The community is still growing there and it’d be great to get more users engaged with that channel as there’s great content coming through already.

    Backer Surveys

Just a quick reminder that the backer surveys are being released on the 28th April. We’ve been working hard to ensure smooth filing, management and delivery of your backer rewards. The way rewards are going to be sent is in ‘waves’.

Our first ‘wave’ of deliveries will be the Closed Alpha Steam Codes which will be sent on May 24th, ready to activate on the 26th. From that point onwards, we’ll be looking at how and when to send out the next ‘waves’ to send other rewards such as the forums tags etc to you guys.

Physical rewards such as the dogtags and t-shirts will take much longer to sort out, so don’t expect to receive them in May. However we are working on getting them produced and sorted, ready to be sent later in the year.

    That’s it for today’s update!

    Thanks,

KingHoward & The Bulkhead Interactive team.

  4. After previous leaks of marketing material, Activision have officially unveiled Call of Duty: WWII. There will be a 'worldwide Reveal' live stream on April 26th to show off what they have planned. The game is rumored to launch on Nov 3rd.

Personally, I'm glad they went back to WWII. There are so many modern shooters out there and all the great WWII FPSs are showing in age. Still great games, but I think with a graphics refresh, it can be even better. It will be interesting to see the various new WWII shooters compete against each other such as Battalion 1944 and now CoD:WWII. Obviously CoD has name recognition, but I think we'll see a great selection of games from this genre this year and probably next.

    Your thoughts?

  5. For those that have been following the Battalion 1944 progress, they recently released the first game footage since the Kickstarter project was funded and I must say it looks promising. Below is the email they sent out with the link to the video.

    Hey guys,

It’s been a long time since the amazing success of the Battalion 1944 Kickstarter and since then we haven't shown much in terms of gameplay... until now!

The following 15 minutes of gameplay is RAW from a pre-alpha playtest of our casual TDM mode on our first map, which will be play tested during our first closed alpha weekend; Manor House.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGtZhgdTxpg

A few key points to consider after watching are:

    • Third person animations in this build are in a very early state. We have much more fluid anims already working in engine which are currently mid-implementation, coming in before the closed alpha goes public.
    • User Interface is still a work in progress, there’s a lot of placeholder assets in there and some functions aren't working the way we envision them to. However you can see of general thought process of how we are aiming for a simple HUD with minimal clutter.
    • We still have a way to go! Which means we’re still looking for your valuable feedback. This footage was recorded two weeks ago, a lot of issues are already known to us and a lot has already been fixed within this time frame but we’re always looking forward to hearing your comments.

We’ve been completely and utterly rebuilding the unreal engine to mimic the gameplay feel of old school shooters and maximising performance to ensure our first ‘pre alpha reveal’ is representative of what our sights are for Battalion 1944.

We’ve recently been testing the ‘base game’ with some super closed playtests with pro level Call of Duty 2 players and gaming press, making sure the BASE GAME feels good to play. That’s what our aim is with sharing this gameplay footage, to show you guys how the movement, aiming mechanics etc feel. We feel we’ve got to that point where we’ve completely modified Unreal Engine to feel like a classic FPS with 1 to 1 movement and aiming mechanics. This should hopefully clear up any misconceptions about our intended direction with the game!

Weapon balancing, map design, and animations are all trivial and fixable issues. But what we’re trying to nail is the feel of the game, we can tweak weapons and maps on a weekly and even daily basis, but the game MUST feel like a classic shooter from day 1. We’re getting as close as we can at alpha aiming to lock off all movement tweaks and changes by early access or even beta. This is why we need our team of alpha testers/backers to help us really nail the feel of Battalion.

Battalion 1944 at EGX Rezzed! Battalion 1944 at EGX Rezzed!

Here’s a quote from Howard about our goals with making a classic shooter:

“Battalion has always been about bringing back the 'feel' of classic shooters which peaked in the era of the early CoD titles. Almost all of the FPS games from that era were derived from the Quake Engine, which since then developers have shied away from in favour of prettier visuals and easier to pick up mechanics for newer players (in turn reducing the skill cap of FPS games). These modern FPS titles are great polished games in their own right but by fixing 'bugs' such as fast reloads, strafe jumping and eliminating the rough edges, a lot of developers left that classic feel many gamers miss behind.

This is what Battalion is aiming to recapture from that era. True skill based mechanics to allow players who are good at the game to push the skill ceiling higher. We miss those classic FPS days before unlocks/killstreaks. These classic games were by no means bad, they've just not been remade for the current generation yet.”

More ‘Community Driven Development’ from this point forwards

Now we’ve got to the starting point where we’re happy with the base game we’ll be able to start sharing much more ‘smaller’ updates, screenshots, videos and tidbits of information with you guys to keep you involved with progress on the game from now until release.

So, with Alpha coming soon this is a key point for us to remind everyone involved that Closed Alpha/Beta/Early Access is NOT a marketing tool for us, unlike some companies who use them to drum up hype for the game when in reality the game is already done. We’re actively still developing the game which means things will be broken and unfinished.

  6. I'm seeing a lot of input from CoD4 players. For those that regularly play the CoD5 Nam server, those opinions are absolutely more valuable than someone who rarely plays in it. Someone who does not regularly play on the server should have ZERO input on what's featured and what is not.

In my opinion, Martydom should be turned off. Yes it's a part of the game, yet so is bunny hopping. Why are we ok with removing bunny hopping but not martydom?

Martydom takes zero skill, it's simply a perk that was added because Activision went to shit and away from core gameplay with added gimmicks. Why else would you have a feature that enables you to inactively drop a nade when you're already dead just to say 'F U, I'm taking you with me'? Cooking a nade and running into a crowd is just dumb and noone plays that way...at least not on the CoD5 server. If someone pulls a nade, is about to throw it and is killed, yes that would kill the person who killed them if they are close enough...but an auto nade drop is just dumb.

I'm normally all about pure game play as developers made or modders made it, however Martydom is one of those perks that is just pointless.

  7. For those interested in playing The Crew, and weren't able to get it for free a while back from Ubisoft, I have 5 keys that I'm giving away. Looking to get some guys/gals together to play what is a fairly fun open world racing/GTA/Need For Speed type game. If you're interested in getting a key, add me on Uplay (ThePhoenix911) and shoot me a message and I'll send you the key.

For those that already have the game, we should set a time to get some crews together!

  8. World of Warships have finally launched clans with the latest update. I have already created XI clan since I had some spare Dubloons laying around. For those of you that play WoW, feel free to search the name >XI< Xtreme Idiots and apply to the clan. I will approve them as quickly as possible and will transfer the Commandership/Deputy Commander to someone who plays daily as opposed to weekly (me). when they accept the invitations.

    See you guys in game!

    WoW Clan Patch Notes Below:

Starting from Update 0.6.0, the Clans feature becomes accessible. The cost of creating a Clan is 2,500 Doubloons.

Added the possibility to invite a player to join a Clan. It is available to Clan members with the following positions in a Clan: Commander, Deputy Commander, Recruiter.

    - The invitation to join a Clan will only be displayed to a player who is currently not a member of another Clan
    - The player can decline the invitation. After that, the invitation will be removed from the list of invitations
    - The player can accept the invitation. After that, the new Clan member will be redirected to the Clan profile
    - Invitations whose lifetime (3 days) has expired will not be displayed to the invitee but will be displayed (with the "Expired" status) to members of the inviting Clan
    - The sent invitation will be displayed in the "Invitations" tab and its status will change after the invitee accepts/declines it or it expires
    - For Clan members, a Clan tab will be displayed next to the "Profile" tab. This tab will be named after the Clan tag of the corresponding Clan
    - Every Clan member can see the profile of their Clan. The profile of any other Clan can be accessed after the corresponding Clan is found via the search feature. The following information about a Clan is displayed:

    Clan members
    - Average statistics for all Clan members (if only a single Clan member chose to hide their personal statistics, then it will not be included in the average Clan statistics; if there are several Clan members who chose to hide their personal statistics, then this data will be accounted for when calculating the average Clan statistics; if all Clan members chose to hide their personal statistics, then the statistics of this Clan will also be "hidden")
    - Personal statistics for every player who did not choose to hide them
    - Positions of Clan members: Commander (has full permissions); Deputy Commander (as above, but cannot disband the Clan and delegate the Deputy Commander authority); Recruiter (can invite players who are not members of other Clans to join the Clan); Line Officer (an ordinary Clan member
    - For now, the maximum number of players in a Clan is 30
    - Player management includes: Delegating a position of authority to another player (if allowed by the permissions for the corresponding position); Delegating the Commander authority to another player (only Commanders can do this); Removing players from the Clan (if allowed by the permissions for the corresponding position)
    - When a player leaves the Clan: If this player is not a Commander, they will simply leave the Clan. If this player is a Commander, then they will delegate the Commander authority when leaving
    - The Clan chat is an automatically created chat channel where all Clan members are included. The Clan tag is displayed next to nicknames when in battle
    - Clan tags will be visible next to a nickname in the Port: in chats, in the invitation window to join a Division or a Team, as well as in the lists of Division-mates or Teammates
    - Added an option to create and modify the Clan's description
    - Added an option to select the Clan tag color
    - Added an option to change the Clan name and/or tag (cost: 2,500 Doubloons)
    - The following reservation rules are applied to the Clan names/Clan tags. The previous Clan name/tag is reserved for the Clan for a month after the date of its modification. During this time, it cannot be used by any other Clan. That is, if Clan "A" changed its Clan name/tag to "B", then the Clan name/tag "A" cannot be used by any other Clan. If this Clan changed its Clan name/tag to "C" later, then the Clan name/tag "B" becomes reserved, but the Clan name/tag "A" becomes vacant and can be used by another Clan
  9. So let me preface this with I've never played Skyrim but looks interesting and want to try it out. Looking at Steam, there seams to be the new Special Edition out with better graphics (and maybe more) but the classic supposedly has all the mods (whatever those mods may be). For someone new to the game, should I get the classic Skyrim, or should I get the new Special Edition?

  10. Bunnyhopping and Ping below 50 is nearly impossible to make a hit for european gamers with 130-150 Ping

Thats not true...I've played both from Germany with 100+ ping, reaching over 200+ ping here in Korea and have had no issues shooting bunny hoppers. You just have to expect it and know where to aim (ie higher or further from the edge of the building).

In the end, even if you dont have the top score, as long as you're having fun, that's all that matters.

  11. I would hold off on buying this game since it was originally being developed by Crytek and now is being developed by Dambuster Studios which has absolutely no history in game development.

    Well that's not entirely true....

Dambuster was formed by Deep Silver after Crytek UK had financial issues and sold the franchise to Deep Silver. All of the staff that worked on Homefront at Crytek UK were transferred to Dambuster. Prior to Homefront, Crytek UK worked on games such as Crysis 2/3 and Timesplitters.

All the gameplay footage I've seen to date seems pretty good.
