I'm 64, raised on rock 'n roll of the '50s, early '60s variety. And it's about all I've listended to since.

There was some good stuff in the '70s and '80s but for the most part, I stopped buying and listening to current music about 1970 when it turned into so much noise. In particular, I could not stand one single minute of Heavy Metal and related shit.

So here comes BudSr with a post in Rugger's All Clan member meeting and with it a vid of Ozzy Osbourne singing "Changes." Now all I know about this whack job is that he bit the head off a bat or something, and killed off millions of brain cells with heavy drug use. I watched the TV series on his home life because it was some funny shit, so, I thought what the hell, I'll click on that vid to see what this guy sounded like - never heard him before.

What I expected was some loser out of tune screaming at people. But what I heard was a great voice, a lot of passion, and very, very surprising to me, a song I really liked. I played it twice. Then I played it again.

I now realize I probably missed out on a lot of good music during those decades by refusing to listen to it. And so I'm going to pay more attention to some of this stuff, at least with a more open mind. And thanks BudSr for turning me onto it. I prob. won't like most of what Ozzy and  contemporaries did but that song was captivating. Or maybe I'm just regressing due to old age...

No Harry, it was no accident. Thankfully I have kept an 'open' ear to music even after I made it over the hill, and there continues to be something new and good coming out regularly. Granted, it may be surrounded by a sea of noise, but the 'young' crowd always continue to amaze me with tunes that inspire, entertain, or just plain rock. If you stopped listening to new stuff in the late 70's.. you got a lot of catching up to do. ENJOY!!!

There was some good tunes out there in the 80's a few less in the 90's and now  there is still some worth listening to. I grew up listening to the 70's stuff and most of that was OK. But when the heavy metal came out in the 80's you couldn't even understand anything they said. So I am with you on that one. If you listen to some of the better groups, then you may find something that you like.

But 75% of the music in the last 20 years has been crap. If you can't understand it, or someone repeats the same thing over and over, then why listen to it. And don't watch the videos, they scare the hell out of you. It is hard to beleive that a good song that you really like is sung by something that crawled out of the subway tunnel or something similar. Damn

Back in the 70's I woulkd listen to whatever had a good beat to it, not necessarily the words. Like Alice Cooper's Dead Babies. That had a good beat but the words were a little extreme. So I blocking out the lyrics. To me nothing was that good until CCR came out. Oh I guess the Beatles had a few good ones. My top group that I liked would have to be The Eagles. Some of their songs had some real meaning.

Chris Rock is probably one of the better ones today. But I don't know what he looks like, I want to leave that way.

Bushape, we are in the same world as regards the garbage music that flooded the '80s; and yes, CCR and the Eagles did some of the best music of that period. Tball: Eminem sucks donkey dicks - I cannot tolerate ©Rap "music."

Another great Ozzy song Bud - there's just something about his voice that grabs me - incredible talent. AND I LOVE the Dreamer video. I've got to have more.

It's been a long time since I dicked around with Napster. What are we using these days to priate music over the Internet?

Harry, Ozzy actually has quite a few more "mellow" songs.  Some of his songs are a little harder, like in the Black Sabbath realm, but he does have quite a few that you would probably like that are more like the ones posted.

One of my faves......

I myself prefer the older music much like yourself Harry. Motown was the sound I grew up with in Michigan and I still love it today. You ever get a chance to watch Standing in the shadows of Motown you should. It's about the Funk Brothers, a studio band that played on more #1 hits then Elvis, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones had combined. They were the Motown sound.  Some of the new stuff I listen to but I keep going back to the oldies, I listened to some Rare Earth last weekend. You know that they were the only white band that signed with Motown. lol

I'm loving this music. Is there a way to capture music from videos as it's playing on your system? If not, what's the latest peer-to-peer that's safe to use?
