British news sources report that HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the husband of HM The Queen, has undergone surgery to clear a blocked coronary artery.  As he is 90 years old, the news of his removal to a specialist hospital in Cambridge, by helicopter, from the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, was a cause of some concern but the reports suggest a successful procedure to insert a 'stent'.  He is expected to remain in hospital for a few days.

Full story at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-16323794

Sandringham House is the traditional Christmas retreat of the Royal Family and is privately owned by the monarch.  For those who fancy a quick tour, I've found a video for you.

Let us hope that the prince makes a full and speedy recovery!  2012 is a hugely significant year for the UK as Queen Elizabeth will have been on the throne for 60 years!  Long May She Reign!

Sorry DJ, but I am an anti-Royal

I sincerely hope every single one of them croaks.

I never liked the parasitic, you must bow before me, I was chosen by God and born to reign over you stuff.

Just my personal opinion. (not that I actually wish death upon anyone. It was a metaphorical point and one fueled by at least 5 Bloody Marys, extra spicy)

Like the bit from "Dressed to kill" by Eddie Izzard

But in Britain we don’t win many gold medals at the Olympics – because we’ve chosen not to! It’s a political statement!

Because we hate our national anthem.

Because it’s God Save the Queen, you see. God Save the Queen.

Now the Queen lives in a very big house, she has barbed wire outside, and people with guns in front of that.

That’s one saved fucking queen, I’ll tell you. That’s the problem. She’s overly saved! She has no idea of the struggle of human existence.

We have to work for a living, raise a family – we don’t have nannies all running around the place. It’s – it’s what you’ve got to do in your life. You know.

So it’s “God Save the Queen.” No! It’s too saved. It’s “God Attack the Queen,” that’s what it should be! “God attack the Queen, send big dogs after her that bite her bum. Let them chase after her and let themÖ” That’d be fantastic! Then she’d have to fight the crazy dog with a – with a handbag with a brick inside of it. “Crazy dog! Crazy dog!” “Arrgghh, kill the Queen!” “No – crazy dog!” And maybe she’d kill the crazy dog and everyone in – in Britain would go, “Hell, fair play with the queen – killed the crazy dog.” And the Queen would go – have – she would have self-respect for the first time in her life! Yes. It would work. It’d be fan-tab-u-lous.

Now that's funny

I agree with you totally Nick, about time we had another national anthem too, if we are going to war or playing an international football/sports match we should be  singing to fight for our country, not some old bird and her priviledged family, and as for Phil the Greek, he is one cheeky old git and a bit racist too, we all know that, if i am going to send my thoughts to any old people this Christmas it will be for millions of British pensioners, many who will be spending a lonely Christmas day with possibly not a lot of heat and food to go with it.

Sonova

You are are right there, me old mate. Me mam, is sitting in a nursing home in Blackpool, fighting even for the fluids to survive while that pompous git is getting everything he needs.

She is all alone on this Christmas eve. Her husband is 10 years dead (my Dad, god bless his cotton socks) and the only family she has is one wayward git who bailed out and emigrated to the US in '88 (me) and another who is a long distance lorry driver in Europe somewhere. She is dying all alone and with no one to even wish her merry Christmas and the whole country goes into worry 'cos Nick the Greek has a dodgy ticker.

Mom, I love you and I wish one single person in that great old country of mine gave a single shit to even wish you one last Merry Christmas. I know it would mean the world to you to know one of your sons was at least alive before you go into the great beyond

God bless all

Hmmm Nick I do understand your feelings but your bucking centuries of pompous tradition! I know there iks a much different feeling in Britain now than there was even 2 tears ago. I'm wondering if there is enough of a change in the media public to accept such change! I am always interested to see how so many people from the many countries that make up our members truly feel about these kinds of things!

Dean, I was in her service for 34 years, holding her royal warrant for 30 of them as one of her constables.  There is not a single person alive in this country of ours who has dedicated their lives so completely to its service, having been thrust into the role at a very young age through the sad death of her father, George VI.  She has my love, respect and loyalty and I have two medals with her image on them of which I am proud.  Monarchy is the glue that binds this divided country together - our focal point in times of crisis or celebration.  I don't know or understand what "superior" system or Head of State the detractors would substitute for our Sovereign but I can guarantee that it would not get near the constitutional monarchy in terms of safeguards and absolute political independence. It has worked for 900 years and may it do so for another 900!

I'm saddened that some appear to lack compassion for a sick 90 year-old who has also served his country in war (Royal Navy) and peace for so long.

The next building on our Christmas tour of royal establishments is the Tower of London.  (You can see the former entrance to Traitors' Gate as the bricked up arch on the river bank.)

God Save The Queen and Happy Christmas! Smile

I support everything you have said 100%. I am proud to be BRITISH and proud of our Royal family who have served in every major conflict and bring so much money to this country with regards tourism ect ect..

And if the haters actually did there homework they will find out that the Royal Family supports its self there is no hand outs and they pay tax (and yes maybe not as much as some would have it but who cares)

This country of ours was not FUCKED BY THE ROYAL FAMILY its our FUCKING USELESS POLITICIANS and all the illegal immigrants and migrant workers...

And did Prince Phillip not get slated for saying that this country needs to stop the imigrants and get back to doing what we do best manufacturing.....and he is also a great supporter of bringing back national service to sort out all the toe rags and thugs....Which I support 100%..

So get off the Royal Family's back and address the real problems our fucking government and the people who keep voting in these useless PRICKS

I agree with you totally mate, Most politician's these days seem to be more concered about their image and status than how the country is doing.

The thing what gets me at it is, How come when we vote in our local MP and send him off to sit in the House of Commons

He is there to express OUR views and OUR concerns.

So how is it then, when the time comes for him to vote on somthing that matters to US - he gets handed a "Three Line Whip" which informes him which way he HAS to vote, and If he refuses to vote the way his party wants him to he has the whip taken away from him, and if he holds an Cabinet office - he gets sacked.

How about that for "Democracy"?
