This tower will be renamed Elizabeth Tower in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II reigning over the United Kingdom Of Great Britain & Northern Ireland for 60 years This is The Great Bell housed within the Clock Tower, more commonly known as Big Ben... "He" weighs in at 16 tons and was named in honour of Sir Benjamin Hall, the first Commissioner Of Works who oversaw environmental and sanitary improvements in London in 1855 and also oversaw the installation of the bell into the tower. **Factoid** Listen to a recording of the bell being struck.... Hear an odd "twang" to the tone? This is due to a large crack in the bell caused by the original striking hammer, they merely turned the bell a quarter turn so the hammer strikes a different place but the crack was never repaired fully, hence the world famous BOING is slightly off kilter!!
