GRRRR never could get a grasp on this. So what I'd like to do is start from scratch and create a new home net work. Homegroup what ever they call it. Things I have on the network and things I'd like to add. Right now the office is hard wired and wireless all the lap tops. I have a nas hard wired. Tv's up staires I can run a cable to the ruko so that ok. Now down staries wifi is weak at best so I've decided to use a power line adapter to get to the family room and I have it. downstaries I could use a dlink dap 1522 or a dlink dir 628 to finnish the link. So here's where it all goes wonky on me. Downstaires I'd like to extend the wifi with one of those 2 units as well as hard wire the xbox and blueray player and eventually the TV in the games room. Everything I've read is it is either wireless or hard wired I can't do both ? That has to be wrong but I don't get it. Somebody got any idea how I should move further here ????

Thanks a bunch fo rany ideas

I can't tell you how to fix your problem, but I have my desktop and xbox wired, then I have wifi for the laptops and the WII and the Blue Ray. You can do both. I had to bang my head against the wall for a while to get it figured out, but it works.

run a hard wire or extension to the family room. then plug a wireless switch into it. it will have wired output, plus the wifi right there in the room.

i'm not really that good with networks, but that seems to be the simplest way to do it. I actually have the stuff to do mine that way, but I just haven't done it yet, cause my wifi gives 70% to eighty% signal to the living room. so i just haven't needed it yet.

labob if you own the home best is wired via running cables through the furnace ducts if you don't want to drill any hole in the home

get a D-Link 16-Port Rackmountable Gigabit Switch DGS-1016D its Unmanaged switch, there around $150 new. its the easy way to get all hooked up, if want a surcure network then its more money for a managed switch

Hey Labob,

Here is my home network if you can follow it. I use a couple of switches and wireless routers as access points for better signal coverage around my house due to interference's in certain areas. You can PM me if you have any questions.
