Took 6 hours all told, but I'm happy with it.

Perhaps you can enlighten me...  And please don't interpret the question negatively as I am completely ignorant about

the subject, despite having many friends who have tattoos, body piercings, gaugings etc.

What is the appeal of having this done?

I am a member of a generation that has associated tattoos with naval, military or merchant navy service or those acquired whilst

someone is in jail.  These days, they are obviously more popular with both sexes.  Tattooed ladies are no longer confined

to the circus and sometimes display more ink than their male partners.

One of my closest pals has Nordic tattoos on both arms due to his spiritual beliefs but an onlooker would have no idea what

they were about without explanation.

I know they are darned expensive and a permanent adornment so why/how are they attractive?

I've always wanted a tattoo of a fleur de lis exactly like this one and in the same place.

For me personally i just wanted to try one and see if it really hurt as much as some people say, i heard stories about people fainting whilst getting a tattoo, i would never have had a Tattoo years ago when they all seemed to be coloured, they look really bad on people after a few years when they faded and there was never any decent designs etc, now there are some fantastic Tattoo designs out there, i think it is in our Genes/History etc whatever you want to call it, most ancient tribes in whichever country usually sported Tattoos of some sort, probably thought it made them look more fierce.
