There are approximately 30 non-flying Mosquitos around the world with two airworthy examples. The largest collection of Mosquitos is at the de Havilland Aircraft Heritage Centre in the United Kingdom, which owns three aircraft, including the first prototype, W4050, possibly the only initial prototype of a Second World War aircraft design still in existence in the 21st century.

Reichsmarschall Hermann Goring said " It makes me furious when I see the Mosquito. I turn green and yellow with envy. The British, who can afford aluminum better than we can, knock together a beautiful wooden aircraft that every piano over there is building.....They have the geniuses and we have the nincompoops."

I liked the story about Germany building a special JU88 to fly at very high altitude for reconnaissance. First flight over England, it was shot down by a Mosquito. The RAF had anticipated something like that, and was ready.

This particular aircraft was restored in NZ for a US Warbird enthusiast Jerry Yegan.  I now understand that he is progressively selling this collection so I am unsure if this aircraft is still in his hands.

The good news is that I believe the same restoration crew in NZ are currently working on/have plans to restore at least two other mosquitoes.

The were without doubt an incredible aircraft being made mainly from wood.
