I would say a monitor.  My husband uses a 48" tv for his monitor but the max resolution is 1920x1080. Monitors resolutions can go much higher.

If its computer work or the occasional vid at the desk go for a monitor. You get more out of it for the same money.

I'm currently using an "older" 32" Westinghouse flat screen TV as my computer monitor. Resolution is perfect. Size is better than any "computer monitor" I could buy on the market for the price. It has all the connection points necessary to use with my PC. I love it.
